War within mage hero talents are a missed opportunity

I understand that blizzard is trying to create sub specializations that take a flavor of 2 specs. I don’t think this hybrid spec system is thematically interesting or a good representation of what a “hero spec” should be. To start off being limited to what talent tree you can chose based off your spec is not a fun design in my opinion. What if I play a spec that does not have access to the hero spec I like? I suggest moving away from the hybrid system and allowing any spec to choose any hero talent tree. Secondly, the themes of the hybrid spec particularly the mage ones are very lame. Why would you choose any of those when you have things like necromancer/lich, chronomancer and archmage? All of which are well established in the lore. These are also easily integrated into any of the 3 mage specs.

My ideas for the new hero talents based off my suggestions for mage would be as following:

Necromancer:

Death borne, fully embrace death magic to increase damage done by X% for X seconds everytime you consume clear casting, hotstreak or brain freeze increase damage done by 1% stacking up to X times. This replaces arcane surge, combustion and icy veins.

Raise the dead, summon 3 skeletal mages that cast a copy of your spells at X% effectiveness for X seconds. This replaces mirror images.

Chronomancer:

Reverse time, return to a point in time 5 seconds ago restoring all party/raid members missing Health. This replaces alter times.

Time dilation, activating combustion, arcane surge, or icy veins accelerates times increasing X party members haste by X% for X seconds.

Archmage:

Choice node:
Frost fire bolt, hurl a massive bolt of extreme heat and cold at an enemy dealing X damage. Everytime you consume hot streak, clear casting, or brain freeze the damage of frost fire bolt is increase by X% stacking X times. X second cooldown.

Insight, consuming clear casting, hotstreak, or fingers of frost increases the damage of your next arcane barrage, fireball, or frostbolt by X% stacking X times.

Choice node:
Gift of the magi, casting a frost, fire and arcane spell within 10 seconds of each other infuses you with ultimate arcane knowledge increasing damage done by X % for X seconds.

(Insert current spec) mastery, increases (insert current spec) damage done by X%

These are the major thematic changes that could be made to make you FEEL like you are playing a HERO class, it’s also allows player to retain spec identity if they choose to with the archmage talent choices.

I’ve missed my frostfire so I’m happy about that. But not having necromancer seems like a missed win (though that would’ve started a forum war over which class properly should get necromancer). Apparently necromancer was considered as the first hero class but a lot of the ideas were just incorporated into death knights.

No lore wise all necromancer are mages they are not the same as deathknights.

Hero specs are actually just more passive for the end of your talent tree…

It isn’t actually" hero specs" they really should just scrap it

Dark Ranger is just going to buff wailing arrow and the windrunner ghost shot to happen more often and that’s it…

So Warthin really has nothing exciting.

Warbands are long over due
Earthen are the worst allied race
Hero specs are just discount class skins

If I could have anything I wanted with expanding on the Hero Talent system as it currently stands, for mages I’d like Conjuror and Enchanter. Summoning a bunch of elementals and familiars, or replacing arcane orb with a small army of levitating cleaning appliances. I still want to be able to conjure our own floating weapons like Kael’thas.

I’m aware of that? >_>;; Hence why necromancy is literally listed as one of the schools of magic.

It’s just in previous hero class/class skin discussion players of other classes (usually death knight or warlock) would argue that they should get necromancer. And on Blizzcast episode 7 they confirmed that " The necromancer class was one of three front runners to becoming the first hero class released with Wrath of the Lich King, however, the ideas surrounding them were incorporated into the death knight. (The two other front runners being runemasters and monks).

The irrational irritation that I have for these requests, is getting to the point where I dont understand it. The ever present requests from people wanting Necromancer Class and Dark Ranger Class. I get it. The darkness of your soul and eyeliner can only be matched by the darkness of your class, and only a dark ranger or necromancer will do.

Dark Ranger is coming as a Sub Class. Necromancer has so much overlap between death knight and warlock, that making a new spec, would have to cannibalize too much from either. Im not saying that it is not do-able.

But the requests for these two just seem so cringe and edgelord-ish.

Archmage’s specialty would be summoning water elementals in your base at the very start of the game, killing your gold collectors.

They could uses more spices in their conjuring abilities. Its always bland with hp/Man regen only . Give some stats will yeah

why? the sub specs custom made to match both specs, adding the 3rd does nothing.

it would be in name only. The left out option will have nothing to do with your abilities or spec. Not getting the name you want is like 1/10 on the bad meter. Its not a big deal

these suite a death knight much better. Mages don’t deal with death, they deal with arcane magic.

at the end of the day we know nothing about these specs. They’re not a miss or a hit yet, just an idea

Your opinion is objectively wrong.

took you 4 days to figure that zinger out eh? take your time.

No took me 5 seconds

the lack of sarcasm awareness is strong with this one. Anyway, no sorry you lose. Your ideas are bad and they make no sense ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it makes no difference if you get 2 or 3 specs.

why not 5?
it doesn’t matter

Nope.

It should go to Warlocks. Not Mages. It doesn’t fit Mage’s theme, the same way WC3 Blood Mage was a Fire-Lock.

As Mages we should never branch into using Dark Magic under any circumstance as that is what seperates us from Warlocks and Shadow Priests to an extent. So I think that instead we should get a spec called “Guardian”. Your concept is not bad, so the idea could work similar to what you describe.

Medivh was notorious for his echoes in Karazhan so something that summoned stronger Mirror Images instead of reanimating the dead would work, and instead of Deathborne call it “Might of the Guardian”. I get we’re kinda one of Blizzard’s favorite classes, but that doesn’t mean we should be allowed to pilfer and steal other classes themes on the fly. Warlocks are the Dark Magic users of this game. Not Mage.

Mages will never have necromancy, that’s all for Death Knights.
