War Within Hero Talents

What War Within paladin hero talents are you most excited for and why?! Just want to get a general feel of what people are thinking about the options.

Herald of the Sun for Holy Pally.

Why?

  • Because Lightsmith sucks.
  • Because the name is kinda cool.
  • Because some of the effects look really cool.

What I’m not looking forward to is Holy further slipping into this Hot based passive healing spec that will inevitably lead to Blizzard nerfing our direct healing spells because there’s too much power in passive hots, etc.

I main holy paladin, and I’m currently a lot more excited for Herald of the Sun than Lightsmith. My guild only raids through heroic, so most of my gearing is done in M+ dungeons which I spam for heroic loot and mythic vault. Because of that, I at least try to do as much damage as I can when I’m able as a healer, and it feels like Herald has a lot of neat options to use their abilities offensively as well as defensively, kind of like how Glimmer works now.

Lightsmith doesn’t look bad, but I hate the idea of cycling through an offensive and defensive buff with no power over which I’ll get other than timing (since it changes to the next every cast). Same reason I still hate the Blessing of Seasons talent. In both cases, I would love if the ability had two charges (still recharged at the same rate as cooldown), just so I could bank a charge to immediately use the next ability if I wanted and had it ready.

Both have things I like, for min/maxing it’s going to come down to tuning. The lightsmith weapon armament specifically, hopefully it’s actually a substantial amount of damage, otherwise it won’t be used in m+ period.

Eternal flame looks great but also comes down to the HoT tuning. Dawnlight during wings in big trash pulls in m+ sounds dope on paper.

Ideally we see a little button pruning for hpal in the coming weeks of alpha/beta because adding another situational button to a class that already has so many cooldowns seems quite annoying.

Can’t say any of the options sounded super fun for prot, but I suppose moar hammers! Templar will do the trick.

As a Ret, both templar and Herald look fun.

I’m looking forward to experimenting with both.

Herald looks really fun. Templar looks really boring.

As Holy and Ret, Herald looks to be a bit more well rounded. Dawnlights seem more versatile and gaining Eternal Flame and Divine Purpose procs really complete the hero talent tree imo.

Templar feels lackluster and nothing that I would have expected for such a fantasy =/. Just Ret Paladin 2.0, idk, doesn’t get me excited at all.

Same with Lightsmith. The concept could have been really cool, but it just feels really undercooked right now. I suspect they just couldn’t do what they wanted with Lightsmith after the feedback of Augmentation, lol.

Both Templar and Herald look good from ret perspective but I think I’m leaning toward Herald. That right side of Luminosity, Sun Sear and Second Sunrise seems very appealing.

Herald of the Sun for Ret. Gameplay-wise I might hate it, since Templar Strikes might be BiS for it despite Crusading Strikes making the class flow a whole lot better.

Thematically though, I don’t care all that much about Templar, I never really liked how hard they kept pushing for Paladins to be weapon summoners and more paracausal hammers on top of Divine Hammer’s rework just doesn’t do it for me, so it pretty much leaves Herald as my choice.

Thankfully WoA is one of the most satisfying buttons to press in this game, so it won’t be the worst thing in the world.

Honestly all three are appealing to me, definitely warming up to Lightsmith now that they’ve changed how it’s targeting works.

eternal flame is back, okish to counter dots. I was hoping they’ll add back “Illuminated Healing” as a hero talent lol, PVE only cuz broken in arena and the only reason why it was removed from the game.

Im opposite to this opinion im tired of all the hammers in our rotation just let me hit something with my sword instead of shooting hammers 24/7

I agree that actual smashing would be more fun, this just seems to be the least bad choice of the two IMO.

Nah, hammers is an awesome choice considering the greatest and most well known paladins like Arthas, Uther and Turalyon used warhammers.

My totally unbiased, scientificlly-based, Holy Light inspired opinion, of course.

/looks at turalyon in game.

That uh… looks like a broken sword that is formed the rest of the way with light.

Would be cool if we gotten something yo that effect for templar.

Yeah true dat, but he wields it only to honor his fallen hero, the greatest warrior of Azeroth, Anduin Lothar.

His preferred weapon of choice is a warhammer.

Like I said, my totally unbiased, scientificlly-based, Holy Light inspired, absolutely accurate opinion, of course.

Glyph choices would be great where it mimics your equipped weapon. Hammers are most popular for humans and dranei but less so for other racial paladins. Copying your equipped weapon would be a one size fits all win.

Both holy options are trash

IH is also broken in PvE, made hpallies OP side-by-side with disc back when it was a thing and invalidated the existence of all other healers.

I am glad for all healers that absorb-centric healing is gone and probably gone for good. Let’s not bring it back and be shockedpikachu for the 99999th time that absorbs warps healing patterns when they come in large amounts.
