I don’t know where to voice my opinion on this subject, because I cannot add reviews to the Blizzard Gear store. I’ve played WoW since cataclysm and love the game. I collect the collectors editions and have all of them except the first one, as it’s well over a thousand dollars and risky to get one sealed. With that said, I received my War Within collectors edition and I am EXTREMELY disappointed. The collectors edition is supposed to be the ultimate edition of the game, with all these nice little extra features to justify a well over $100 dollar price point, and the number has been climbing each time a new expansion comes out. So when I received The War Within collectors edition, I was very sad to see that inside the actual collectors box there was only an artbook and a little pin. This is honestly an insult to me as a purchaser and collector. I used to get a CD Soundtrack of the new music from the expansion, a couple of DVDs pertaining to the game disc, what I believe is a bonus features/making of the expansion, a few 20 day free trial coupon, and most of all an exclusive mousepad that has an image of significance to the expansion itself. All of these items make spending over $100 dollars worth my money. This new edition has an admittedly awesome statue, but that’s about all. For future editions, I think it is imperative that you stick to your old formula with the PHYSICAL items. I personally do not believe that giving people 1000 trader’s tender, a transmog set, a pet, 30 days of game time, and a mount are worth the money I just spent when I can compare them to older versions I have that are far more “collectors edition.”
Isn’t the entire contents of the collector’s edition clearly listed and labeled on the website prior to purchase?
You literally were told what you were purchasing before you purchased. So you purchased it, and came here to complain about it?
CDs are obsolete media why make them when no one uses them anymore??
Show me a 2024 vehicle with a CD player
They sell oversized desk pads on blizzard gear right now.
Stop complaining you knew what you paid for they even show you what’s in it on the description
Personally, I’d take the awesome statue over a mousepad and the music I can probably get on my phone anyway any day.
It is glorious to behold!
It’s all just going to be shoved in the back of a drawer anyway.
Like it’s being erased from existence?
That sounds like the work of a rogue timerunner. Wait till AI get a hold of them.
Honestly, it feels like a larger through line of the items surrounding the editions and their perceived value.
The packaging is gorgeous, the statue is neat, the art book is top notch as usual. But it is lacking something. I was quite disappointed getting this, and yes I can read the description. I don’t even wanna start on the beta access bs that had to be course corrected. Predatory at worst (I work in marketing, yes we would game plan double dip purchases etc, that’s how you make $ and pressure test how much you can get away with vs diminishing returns on brand perception), negligent at best of simply not thinking through how to connect store ID vs Bnet account.
I can say the same about blizzcon goodie bags, the trove of stuff I got in '08 and '09 (I still have the frostmourne keychain and zergling in goop on display at work) vs the grunt in '19.
I assume majority of that is costs to manufacture, and yeah sure, things are more expensive. But at the same time the reason for those editions was the treasure trove of Stuff.
Maybe the age of that loot chest like collectors edition that blizzard used to do is simply over. And that is just that - we get currency to use in game, and a mount and pet. Game time is neat but idk what the % of folks who buy collectors edition and activate them do Not have a rolling 6/12 month sub at this point. Level boosts? Yeah sure, I guess that’s good for a returning player for the most part?
$ proposition on paper is great, the value perception is significantly lower.
Also why no more cross game goodies? Hell, why not throw in a COD skin or something. But non of this matters if the money doesn’t add up, and not many brands or companies will willingly lose $ for a promise of returns at the rate that the older collectors editions would require them to.
You are not wrong. It is printed all over the box. Can’t imagine spending $180 + Tax on something I didn’t bother to read or review. Times have changed, and so have the contents of these “Collector’s Editions” which are only impressive to the people who purchase them and others like them. Pretty sure my $90 Epic Edition with Early Access will suit me just fine in about 4 hours
So, did you not get:
- World Of Warcraft: The War Within Epic Edition Game Key
- The War Within Hardcover Art Book
- Gryphon Rider Statue
- Collector’s Pin featuring Anduin, Alleria, and Thrall
as advertised?
Plus:
- Beta access included, while available
- Epic Edition Game Content includes: Enhanced Level 70 Character Boost; 3 Days of Early Access, and 30-Days of Game Time; Algarian Stormrider Mount; Stormrider’s Attire Transmog Set; Deepdweller’s Earthen Hearthstone Effect, Squally, the Storm Hatchling Pet, and the Sandbox Storm Gryphon Toy; and 1000 Trader’s Tender
Completely optional and as advertised, no?
You do? Will you read what’s in the box then?
The statue is cool, though I feel this is my least favorite package for the collectors edition. I mean I knew what I was getting, no complaints there. I do miss how much physical swag were in the old ones however!
I would love the physical one to have more physical swag in the future for sure, but if the statues keep being this nice, I can just deal with the statue and pin combo tho
I sat down with a friend of mine once who ordered a dish called “Potato Chips Nachos” from Texas roadhouse. When the food came out he became rather upset and asked the waitress to refund the dish and get him something else because he didn’t realize potato chips would be an integral ingredient in a dish labeled “Potato Chip Nachos”. I’ve thought back to this moment in life on many occasions questioning his intellectual capabilities. Then I read your posts and thought … This is one of those scenarios. You read what was included in the item you were purchasing and thought to yourself, man that sounds neat. Then you received the item and said wtf is this, this is exactly what I paid for and I’m upset.
Well there goes the value as it is now open.
Oh no! The award for worst take has quickly shifted from “prepatch event had nothing” to “I didnt read what was in the edition and got it anyway!”
Congrats on your new award!
There’s a very large commemorative statue this time around.
I think that more than makes up for the missing soundtrack.
Wait, is OP serious? Pining for a mouse pad and an audio compact disc?
Tell me you are a boomer without saying you are a boomer**
I have played wow since release. The value is fair for the collectors edition of tww. You are a whiner. Straight calling it
Here ya go, here’s an entire list:
Cross skins were dumb to add imo. Not everyone plays all the other games. Minus the soundtrack (which we havent got since probably wrath if I recall) and mousepad which being the 20th anniversary was most likely swapped for a bigger more substantial collection item with the statue. Its more or less been the same everytime.
The absolutely epic statue made the cost 100% worth it for me. So far as I was concerned, i was paying for the expansion, and the extra cost above the base price was buying the statue and the book too.
