The cinematic has accumulated 3.6M over the 2 Months period since the showing at Blizzcon beating out Dragonflight cinematic (3.3M views) by .3M views
did you mean to type .3M?
pretty nice i guess then.
And yet Shadowlands has 14 million and Battle for Azeroth has 30m.
By contrast Legion has 13 million. Man the damage those two expansions did.
Well that’s nice. Actually I’ve had a few videos pop up in my recommendations of people reacting to that cinematic. Like animators, and just people who do cgi modelling or whatever. It gets some extremely high praise. Like obviously from my layman perspective it looks amazing. But it seems like it’s some next level stuff even to professionals.
Does YouTube count the views from the auto play from WoWhead? I always wondered if that was low-key watch farming
I don’t care about wowhead but these numbers are from World of Warcraft official channel not from some third party channel from YouTube.
Gosh the damage the Sylvanas storyline did is insane. Like BfA from the alliance perspective was great not going to lie. The horde tho… You had to deal with Sylvanas simping from Blizz so much. Alliance too but atleast she’s a villain so you should hate her.
BFA was pretty decent, just the borrowed power system was inferior to legion and since Legion was the first time we had and Lost it BFA gets hate for the massive slowdown. You got 6 great zones, 1 of which is top all time in Drustvar. Great dungeons, great raids, they missed massively on last patch which sucks but overall it was good. PvP sucked though.
I didn’t even know where was an intro video. Mind you, I never saw the cinematics for the last 3 expansions until I launched the game lol.
WoWhead had an autoplay pop up for the official DF cg trailer, and was just curious if that’s something that counts (like twitch views).
Seeing the BfA numbers posted above made me remember I’d check WoWheads front page ever day, and see it play. That may be why the one is so high, too. Just thinking out loud (typing)
I’m more of a Daughter of the Sea or Lords of War: Maraad (RIP) guy, but I respect your choice.
The GTA 6 trailer has over 170 million views in about a month lol.

Not really a fair comparison number wise because those trailers had plenty of time to gather up views compared to the War Within one
Hence why I used Legion as a comparison point. It has 13 mil view while BfA had 30 mil(even though it had been up for a shorter period of time). Similarly Shadowlands still managed to trump Legion at 14mil views.
Okay just making sure that wasn’t the narrative you were going for with the number diff and time being a factor
Lots of people who have and will never play WoW watch the cinematics because they are amazing purely from a technical standpoint if nothing else. What do view counts on the videos have to do with anything?
I think blizzard has a fan base but the issue is they split the player base as soon as they added classic wow into the loop. I personally think they need to go the route gw2 did and make 1 mega server for retail. A lot of servers are empty currently that would benefit from this.
I feel the reason it hasn’t is due to the service they sell. Profit over healthy mmo will show here soon. Retail wow is not getting tons of “NEW” players so what’s left of the mmo market they gotta start pulling some nifty changes to retain us. There’s a lot of good games on the market compared to what it was in 2004 and some don’t even charge a monthly subscription.
For my part - I only watched the Dragonflight intro maybe twice. There isn’t much going on.
Some rock dude wakes up, walks around, falls down, and then dragons fly around.
I watched it a second time to see if I missed anything interesting. Nope.
Meanwhile, that BfA intro cinematic I must have watch more than a hundred times. I don’t even care that BfA was awful Horde bashing Alliance biased tripe - that BfA cinematic is almost like its own movie to watch.
It has tons of small details, various characters get a little spot light, as do various races. It was good - too good for the expansion that followed it.
I don’t like that some older ceramics are blocky and crudely made while others are more refine and near life like or realistic… they should all be and look the same
BfA has an extraordinary intro cinematic. In fact, I think BfA had the most CGI cinematics of all the expansions.
Going back to the intro, you have classic Alliance vs. Horde. You see Sylvanas taking out Footman in a spectacularly spooky fashion. You see a Brad Pitt-ified Anduin casting mass resurrection or mass heal. You see the Alliance attacking for once, and it’s Undercity no less. Saurfang and Genn Greymane look stunning. I still go back to that trailer because it’s simply Peak Cinema.
For all it’s faults, the art team and the music team really propped that expansion up.
