Why do we still have wands for caster classes despite us no longer having a “ranged” slot?
What purpose does it serve?

Cuz you can equip em to your mainhand n use an offhand with em, i think anyway.

Literally just a one handed caster weapon that is no different than a dagger or sword.
Vanilla handled wands way, way, way better.
Wands are basically just worthless items now… just a relic of a better game.

Sometimes, Wand + Offhand at lower levels speeds up casting vs a staff.

You have a “shoot” button you can put on your bar, works for wands as well as other ranged weapons.

I perfer staffs to wands, and unfortunately we can’t mog a wand to a staff, just to a different wand. Ah well.
Same problem when I have a sword… Um, I’m not hack and slashing I’m casting… I want a staff! lol

As apposed to retail where mana exists but does nothing. At least wands do something interesting in Vanilla. Retail is a garbage pile of bad design choices.
Just about every thematically relevant choice added earlier on in WoW’s life, was stripped away to the detriment of the game.

The same purpose as any one-handed weapon. Plus you can use it for Viscidous in Ahn Quiraj
Mana slowed the game down, which is good for reinforcing the RP elements.
Mana slowing the game down is bad for reinforcing the Skinner Box elements… Activision/microsoft would rather have a Skinner Box game than an immersive game.

There is still Wand Shoot if you want to lightly tap something without killing it. Your level will vary in the how well you don’t kill it.
What I’m more curious about is why can spell casters mog maces, daggers, and wands into eachother?
