I purchased my first wand. Gloom Wand which is Shadow damage. I have used it in the Barrens against Kolkars, Raptors and Zebrah (or however it’s spelled). All resisted. Did I waste my money or does it work against something?
Although the wand was being resisted and not causing damage the skill level was increasing. When I got somewhere around 50 it started damaging Kolkars. Have not tried the beasts yet. There is something about Wands I am not understanding.

You have to rank it up man. Your wand skill is low.
It’s nothing to do with the wand itself, and it’s nothing to do with the monsters you’re fighting. It has to do with your wand skill.
Hitting an enemy with a wand depends on your wand skill. If your wand skill is low (which it will be when you first start using one), you’re going to get resisted a LOT until your skill level catches up.
It’s the exact same situation that melee classes have when they find a nice new weapon of a type they haven’t used before – weapon skill starts at 1, and it takes a lot of “practice” (i.e. swinging and missing!) before you can use the weapon effectively.
Of course there are cases where the wand type matters, i.e. don’t use a fire wand vs. fire elementals.

all weps have skills in classic, you just have to keep them updated every level until you hit 60 or 70 in TBCC and max them out fully then
yes, a person can’t just pick up a new weapon and start using it effectively in the very next fight
this is a true real element of RPG that wow classic has preserved.
this isn’t retail, where your character is presumed to be this all-powerful hero who can do anything.
Basically, “welcome to Classic.” I’ve had situations where my max-level toons attack low level mobs only to have my attacks get resisted. Every time it happens, I audibly say “seriously?!” Yeah… it sucks.
