When I was a little kid my Dad was stationed at the Essex Ranger station. Right next to the Great Northern mainline. I was able to see the big rotary plows clearing the mainline a couple of times around 1962-1965.
Great Northern later became Burlington Northern with a merger. It is now BNSF after the BN and the Santa Fe merged.
Found another video of an old timer doing a walk around of a Southern Pacific Rotary. Pretty cool stuff.
