I can see Blizz trying to eliminate the addons market, or make some obscelete and thus controlling more of the experience.
Eliminating the addon market would be okay if they didn’t fail at everything like they always do the ui what a joke if that’s truly what they are trying to do All the way back to Carbonite maps and them buying them out why cause blizz maps suck and still do compared to Carbonite long ago it’s amusing people who ain’t even devs come up with better things than actual devs.
I turned off dbm and only use WA so i have a bigger icon to show me whirlwind stacks im the middle of my ui. Otherwise no addons just UI modifications using bartender4 because blizzs dont let you resize individually.
If blizz allowed us to add map points, i would remove handy notes too.
The only addon that really improves playtime for me is world quest tracker.
If you haven’t, try pugging normal raid or M+ up to 16 with no dbm or wa if you know the fights/ dungeons.
You dont need addons.
You mean DBM has another use other then saying “Your DBM is out of date, please visit curse bla bla bla” usually I update casue I am so tired of seeing that.
I never ever used an addon. They aren’t needed and just cheese fights. People need to pay attention and listen to in-game sound queues. Bosses tend to say certain things for certain mechanics.
There should be 4 levels to raids, Normal, Heroic, Mythic and Inconceivable which would be just like mythic but would not allow any addons, pots or food buffs.
There was an addon that was able to draw on top of the terrain.
I’m going to regret asking, but what exactly is people’s issue with the new UI? The only major problem I have is not being able to make my bars/minimap smaller.
Or are we just mad that Bliz finally implemented a movable UI?
Not everyone is you. I know when I still was healing, DBM helped me with a few thngs because sometimes I’d be too busy healing than watching the chatbox (I seriously don’t play with the volume on.) Having visual queues where I can see them is always a bonus.
That just isn’t true. There are a lot of mechanics that are not clear on their own without a WA or an addon letting you know about them.
That’s been solved.
The egg is primordial. Existed long before a chicken evolved inside one.
Simple logic. ![]()
So, there are going to be various ways around it, unfortunately. The DBM guy who went on Asmongold’s stream to chat about it for a short time probably understands this too. Despite his words saying “less work for me is good” … the opposite will probably be true instead.
Most combat addons use the combat log to literally react to each event that occurs. So, what if there are other indicators that weren’t blocked? Here’s a few examples of how to bypass “private auras.”
- SPEL:_DAMAGE and SPELL_PERIODIC_DAMAGE – unless Blizzard hides these damaging events per spell ID, then any damage taken will expose the private aura.
- Players can use macros to say “I got a mechanic” and the Raid Leader’s “hivemind” can still instruct each player instantly. – Player2 makes a macro that sends a message to chat or the addon channel, Player1 can see this via AddOns and can react accordingly. (But this is probably okay, since Player2 needed to react properly to kick off the chain of events.)
- Players can build new libraries as a way to detect hidden events. For example, there is no way to use coordinates to determine your distance from other players in a raid, but radars still exist in raids because there’s a library contains a function which will use like 10 different spells which various ranges, and it can give you a very good estimate of your distance. It uses “Spell Usable?” logic to accomplish this.
So it’s not a perfect system, and it probably won’t ever be so long as addons are allowed to use such a powerful and diverse API.
I think RWF WeakAuras are extremely overkill, and the playerbase at large doesn’t understand that the majority of WeakAuras used in the RWF are just fancy clocks reminding the player to use a pre-immune, a healing cooldown, etc. VERY VERY VERY FEW actually tell people how to move. While those absolutely do exist, we’re talking about maybe 0-2 per fight (usually 1). Gotta remember that any RWF event is a speedrun challenge created by the community.
Overall, private aura likely won’t change much. But if Blizzard uses this new tech properly, it will have a positive impact on the game.
I ain’t mad I got other options to me which is better and if they truly are going to get rid of some of this stuff and implement it will players like it is the real question.
No need to freakout this is probably only gonna be used for a few mechanics going forward. This wont make dbm or wa irrelevant. This isnt a change of how they been doing stuff as theyve hidden debuffs in the past too now they can hide a bit more.
This is mostly continuing what theyve been doing putting more tools ingame so addons dont go over the limit, which arguably some go and thats more often not stuff that dbm does but custom weak auras.
So, as aforementioned, I don’t believe the intent is to disable these addons completely. They don’t want Addons to be able to solve some “puzzles”.
Reading combat log is fine, all it does is to tell things that you already should know anyway, but in different sizes/places.
This is good and way overdue. Addons are toxic and the makers should be arrested and prosecuted for crimes and stealing from Blizzard and players.
Like Argorwal said above, this is entirely going to be applied for puzzle mechanics like Lords of Dread/Mekkatorque where you gotta figure things out as either an individual/team.
Zero chance they touch the more standard weakauras.
I hope so. Position assignment addons a very lame. Its a lot more rewarding to beat a boss without it.
Like raz p1, you dont really need an addon for 3 people to fill into 3 spots, yet its gonna be required to make it as brainless as possible. Even though imo it makes it harder since it just randomly assigns you vs letting people go to the optimal spot.
But that argument only falls on deaf ears.
The only thing that should be allowed are custom skins on buff/debuff/raid frames/cd trackers and rearranging the existing UI. Block everything else. Add a bit more stuff natively like a damage meter.
Game is immiedately way better.
Blizzard needs to make telegraphs better. Some are hard to see.
I got no issues playing with no addons. The “other” game too.
See, I used Bartender for a good decade because I just want things a certain way. But then Bliz did a thing that pretty much suits my needs there.
And the great part? You can also use Masque with the new Bliz action bars.
The only probs I have with it are resizing the bars a little bit smaller (same with a number of other elements of the new UI).
But, I’m willing to work with it.
The only thing I really need at this tenure of my WoW life is a way to reskin the edit panels. Kgpanels is awesome, but still wants you to have some idea of how to code if you want it to do something specific.
I’m all for creative addons.
It’s also partially why I was sharing my UI recently.
You can do some pretty cool things with just the Bliz UI and some creative addons.
This. The change will allow for more use of addons, instead of a yes/no binary turn-it-off solution like with the Pieces weakaura for Lords of Dread.
The hysteria over this from people on this forum who don’t understand anything about raiding is both hilarious and troubling.
