With all the talk on player housing, warbands, AI companion instances, and the improved options for solo players, I’d like to offer an idea for an evergreen feature that isn’t just “player housing”: Player Hamlets. Imagine a customizable showcase to display relics, artifacts, and memories from all your adventures over the course of your time in Azeroth and beyond.
Via a quest chain, you are given a plot of land to start a hamlet in one of a select few old zones. New plots could be added each patch. This would be instanced to you (and any group members) and would seemlessly load as you approach it. Your hamlet needs resources to grow. This is where it becomes a bit like Warcraft 3 with respect to resource farming, buildings, and management.
You need three resources: gold, lumber, and food. You can farm and provide all three resources yourself or hire workers to automate it. This is done just like in WC3. Gold is used to buy things. Wood is used as a primary resource for buildings. Food is used to hire more workers and soldiers to defend your hamlet.
For buildings you’d start with your town hall/inn (complete with custom hearthstone) to hire workers. These workers would then be used to farm resources and build additional buildings. The buildings’ looks would be tied to player race. Worgen buildings look like Gilneas. Orcs’ would look like Orgrimmar. Humans, night elves, etc, etc. The buildings would basically function as they do in WC3 (where appropriate) only now you can walk into them and customize them. Decorate for the holidays. Put various artifacts/relics you’ve collected in a building you choose. Display armor sets as you see fit.
Your town hall would be your main building , though, with the most space to display these artifacts/relics. This would also be where various famous Azerothians could visit from time to time to offer special quests/challenges/goals/rewards.
Whatever Blizzard has in store for player housing could be morphed into this with enough dev time. Thoughts?
