Vulpera's Nose for Trouble racial

Hey fellow monks,

To be brief, I’m race changing my monk (w/ gold) to either Pandaren or Vulpera. I know the racials are next-to irrelevant when you aren’t pushing high-end content. However, I just cannot decide between the two aesthetically speaking.

I plan to only tank M+, so I’m wondering if the Nose for Trouble racial will help me more than Epicurean? I got my heritage as a Blood DK and it was doing a considerable amount of my HPS, but they were normal, leveling dungeons. Again, I know it doesn’t make much difference, but I can’t pick which one I like best to save my life.

Nose for Trouble is good for shorter fights where absorbing the first hit is pretty impactful. Epicurean is better for longer fights as the higher stats will end up outweighing an absorb on only the first hit. Higher keys tend to take longer per pack, so I would imagine Epicurean will be the stronger racial for tanking higher keys.

As usual, go with the one that you enjoy playing most.

Vulpera:

  1. Nose for trouble is so next to worthless that it shouldn’t be considered.

  2. Bag of tricks is pretty good and worthy of comparisons.

  3. Extra bag space and make/return camp are great adventuring abilities, less so for dungeons.

Panda:

  1. Epicurean is great, but in pvp situations is kind of a drag to stop for 15 seconds after each death to eat again.

  2. Quaking palm is awesome - always good to have another interrupt up your sleeve.

  3. Bouncy while it sounds silly is pretty helpful reducing damage from environment. It’s the only reduced fall damage monks are going to see.

If I were going off useful racials, Panda would win for me. But I don’t like how blubbery the bears are and would stick with the foxes… for me personally.

im just saying, kul tirans passive heal works great with brewmasters slow dmg intake

One of Preach’s recent videos ranked different racials and epicurean was superior by some distance. One of the soulbinds in shadowlands also interacts postively with food stat bonuses. After preach’s video came out, the food bonus statistics from shadowlands cooking were nerfed - but even with that epicurean was still superior. I think these were dps rankings though… it might be different for tanks or healers.

Epicurian is great but truthfully it’s really up to you. Even if it is a hypothetical best it’s not a make or break, and it’s not going to be the reason you could or couldn’t complete a dungeon or raid.

Here’s an example of nose for trouble on a prot warrior

The logs a little bit old but it’s not terrible in dungeons.

Agility food, vers food, and nose for trouble are all going to function the same way for brew. Stagger, Vers, or racial DR. Play what you want.
