Vulpera. Why are Rat-Folk in Wow?

OK, Warhammer has the Skaven Rat-Folk in their games. Yeah you even find them in Pathfinder and Everquest games. But did WoW really need to copy them and bring rat-folk into WoW? I mean just look at the Vulpera, they are obvious Rat-Folk. What a blatant rip-off. What is this obsession with Rat-folk that some game developers have?

I mean isn’t it enough we already have Kobolds in WoW. Do we really need more Rat-Folk?

I thought they were foxes. They certainly don’t look like rats.

They are foxes but I’ll take rat-folk after seeing Flower’s adorable post above as well. :rat: :rat: :rat:

Vulpera are fox-people (it’s there in the name), as you can tell by their bushy non-rat-like tails!

You’re a hunter and you can’t tell the difference between a rat and a fox? Yeesh. You probably shoot at sounds in the woods. I bet even if the farmers put blaze orange stripes on their livestock, nothing’s safe from you.

Its to give way to the cat folk when the rat folk become over populated

Ma’am, that’s a dog.

day 1826 of nonstop complaining about vulpera

also wow’s kobolds are more rat-like than vulpera, which are more like the khajiit from elder scroll (even the goblins are more ratty than vulpera, if you compare them to the ratzuka from wizardry)

but yeah terrible bait is bait

I wish we had rat folk. Azeroth wouldn’t survive the Under-Empire.

Vulpera aren’t rats.

You need to learn what a Fennec Fox is:

Kobolds aren’t rats either. Kobolds in WoW are based on the Germanic folklore of kobolds or “nisse” or “nissar” as they are referred to.

Nope. Fox.

Sure, but it is fun to educate folks in bait threads about cool stuff. Such as the fact that kobolds aren’t actually rats or even rat-folks, they are just a unique take on a quite common type of mythological creature you find in Germanic and Nordic countries.

Sure they combine that with some rat-like characteristics, but they are based on an actual mythological being called “nisse.” Which, incidentally, have some slight connections with the Nordic version of Santa, meaning that Kobolds… are Santa’s elves!

… the funny thing is that this isn’t actually that far from the truth in terms of where the inspiration from kobolds come from.

Foxes are fierce, especially against Feral Druids

Of course they don’t always win

Completely off topic, but the person who runs the sanctuary where Dixie lives (the fox in the video you shared), recently passed away. It makes me sad to hear her voice in the old videos.

I wish we had rat-folk.

Foxes are pest animals people think are cute, that don’t have to deal with them lol.

They are a vector for rabies, they stink and the ones I see looks like ghouls due to scratching bald patches on themselves due to mange.

Even the baby ones look rough. And Animal Control doesn’t even seem to want to step in.

I keep my distance.

Add to that they’ll easily take off with your pet cat or small dog, to eat it- they are ruthless lol.

There’s a reason why farmers hate them- they have a reputation.

That being said, I wish we had an actual rodent race, as someone that has owned rodent pets in the past.

I don’t view rats as bad as I view foxes, even if both are pests.

Also, rats are domesticated- with foxes it’s half-domestication at best with some captive ones.

Wild ones are still an issue.

We have a rabbit problem in the suburbs where I live, and part of that is because they came down and killed many foxes here decades ago.

Rabbits now out of control. Nothing else was eating them. Hawks and other predators don’t only prey on rabbits like foxes seem to do.

But the foxes are coming back, and people have been bitten. One had rabies.

You didn’t get it. It was a joke just for me. I know not actually a dog.

Vulpis is Latin for “fox”. If you can’t tell the difference between a fox and a rat, I don’t know what to tell you. I guess rats have big bushy tails now.
