Vulpera Discussion Megathread (Part 1)

True. I think we'd see them a bit later, but I still wish we had an idea as to when. Hopefully soon we'll know, but I have a feeling if we don't find out at Blizzconn, we might not find out for a while. Just a bad feelin' :P I hate being left hanging for these allied races but at the same time it makes sense that they would keep very quiet about things to conserve hype.

I like not knowing, I know they are coming and thats enough for me.

Lets see where the story takes us.

I don't like it so much, because later on for whatever reason there could be a big 'no, it's not happening' and would disappoint so many. Very low chance to happen with Vulpera, but certainly am worried for other Allied Races I want to see.
I'm less concerned about a possible "no" and more concerned with their release date. We've been speculating a while for 8.2 but it is only that, speculation. Blizzard has been incredibly vague about a release schedule for allied races. Even two that are confirmed have no hate date attached. Blizzard could be planning to drop Vulpera anywhere in the expansion's 1.5-2 year life span.

I don't like waiting. Especially when I don't know how long the wait is.

I'm actually guessing that Sethrak/Vulpera will be released around 8.0.5. The reason they could be keeping release vague is most likely that they want us to experience the stories first before releasing them, so most ARs could be surprise releases.

That would be great, but I think might be a little optimistic. Sethrak have a long way to go before they are ready to be playable, but it sure is nice to imagine...

Oh yeah, by no means am I saying this is certain. It just wouldn't make sense to me since most of their story is wrapped up on Zandalar. Releasing them later would be strange.

I mean, that is true... There don't seem to be that many loose ends for them that could lead into other stories about them. Presumably the next major plot point heading into a major patch will be one of the factions making a move which could take place on the islands or the old world... In either event it's not likely to be voldun because there's not much worth annexing there...

Hmm... Could they really be a secret addition to go with zandatirans?

Who said that they'd only release 2 ARs per major patch?

I just kind of assumed that was the most they could feasibly do without doing an underwhelming job by pilfering most of the assets

That's the thing. That's what people are assuming, but I don't think it was announced anywhere that Blizzard was only doing 2 ARs per major patch, only that they'll slow way down after BfA. Now why would they need to slow way down if they weren't planning on releasing a good amount of allied races?

I'm also shooting for Arakkoa/Ogres as an AR pair, so I gotta remain optimistic somehow.
Love them, would main one day one.
I am here to enjoy myself and have fun.
I think they look fantastic and we need another non human new race.
I mean we just got what ...two new elves making 4 Flavors of Elf, two flavors of cow, two human, two Drans...something new could be great. It is fantasy.
I assumed that 2 per patch would already be considered very fast considering their previous best was 2 per expansion. Slowing down in that context would mean returning to the modest trickle we were formerly used to. That was only an assumption though and Blizzard has been frustratingly vague on the details here so... Maybe?

Also, welcome to the caravan, Yarl! Feel free to poke in the discord group linked on the front page

But the thing with allied races is that they aren't forced to create a starting zone for them, only a small scenario that's run once. I mean, we already technically got 4 allied races in 7.3.5.

That... Is true. I guess it's possible they could add races faster than I had assumed but it should be noted the legion allied races do not have nearly as much work devoted to them as Vulpera do. If they are doing as many allied races as you suggest, they would probably be more on the scale of nightborne and not sethrak
I didn't say that all of them would be as detailed or fresh as Sethrak/Vulpera. Also, do keep in mind they've been working on this since, what, 7.2? They've had a lot of time to work on the various parts, especially since allied races are a major feature for this expansion. Also another note, I believe Blizz said they rushed out the 4 current ARs, and they want to polish them up later.
As far as the warlock discussion goes, a cunning dessert race that will do anything to survive sounds like warlock material to me. Pervious discussion says they won’t have mages, so no warlocks. I’d like to point out that Gul’dan only had training in Shamanism and became the warlock he is today. (See Harbringers for lore). Warlocks are magic users that take shortcuts to power. If I was stuck in a slave encampment I’d take any shortcut I could to power/survival.

Thinking about this with a fresh brain today, it does seem like a valid interpretation. I think it's a perfectly fine way to explain why there might ALREADY be vulpera warlocks in hiding. I just wonder if they'd still feel desperate enough to learn warlocking from scratch after the horde come to liberate them.
Wait, hasn't the Legion been invading various parts of Azeroth? What if the Vulpera researched ways to restrict the damage done by the demons on their home and in the process learned how to utilize fel? We might not see it yet, but not all is revealed in the story, after all.

I'd eat that cookie.
