Vulpera Discussion Megathread (Part 1)

Aight Blizz, you had your fun. It’s time to announce Vulpera as a playable race and give a release date. Horde/alliance or neutral whatever just let me play one! :upside_down_face:

As far as this idea is concerned things have gone from “not going to happen” to “definitely not going to happen”.

The Vulpera express disgust with the Alliance over the attack on Dazar’alor…and then the Alliance’s assault on Vulperan caravans happens.

Our resident fox people are about to find the color red very fashionable.

With my little knowledge of the game and bfa especially, I can’t possibly see how the option for alliance is out of the question. I mean just take a look at the alliance quest through the area. Right at the start you see, quite randomly, dozens of dead vulpera presumably killed by the faithless snakes that you then kill. What the heck do you think blizzard is setting up here?
Admittedly I’m not to knowledgeable about the game but common!
(Or at least change the function of the faction change cash shop item)

Purge squads on the Alliance Side murdering Vulpera in 8.1.

Also this. I mean, there are other things but these are big deals.

Good evening Vulpera Discussion Megathread~

welp that doesn’t leave up for much debate.
Bah, And ill feel like a spineless idiot if I start campaigning to get the function of a cash shop item changed…
Man what the heck were they setting up at the start of that quest then?
Welp time to start leveling a horde character…

The thing that sucks is that I guarantee this is not something Anduin signed off on. This has Graymane or Shaw written all over it. Anduin would never have been okay with something like this and I honestly bet he has no clue what they are doing.

Oof, now that’s going to be a painful quest hand-in.

wait a minute, those quests are for 8.1 right?
Earliest vulpera are getting in are 8.2 iirc. So then what the heck is going on then? I can’t really imagine a large amount of resources going out to kill randoms when those resources could be spent on the war. Unless they just started pledging their undying allegiance to the horde.
Something is up here, this seems super out-of-character for everyone.

Then again what do I know, I just found out they burned the nightelf starting zone when I went there for the the pilgrim’s quests. I think that was the first time I actually got upset in this game. I leveled there, got fond-memories and crap.

I heard Blizzard toned down these WQs, and that Alliance-side, they are just scaring off caravans to make the vulpera not deliver goods to the Horde or something like that. Are you aware of that?

Not that I’m trying to say the vulpera could go Alliance. They clearly won’t, it’s just that it seems this “purge squad” business, which never made any sense, seems to have been toned down already.

I guess I’ll only know for sure when it goes live.

I might not be aware to be frank. My last information was with the Purge Squads. Now I know a lot of things have changed in 8.1 such as Darkshore and Saurfang stuff but I had not heard about incursion changes with the Vulpera.

I could be behind the times, if someone has a solid source on this change I would not mind reading on it. If you have access to a Wowhead link I would love to read up on it. Though, then again, 8.1 is right around the corner now haha.

I mean, there are a lot of shady things happening in BFA. Look at the pre-expansion event with the Horde wanting to avoid killing civilians and the Alliance arriving to see ALL the civilians dead.

I have said it before and I will keep saying it, I feel like there are some shady things happening in the background outside of player view. Either corruption from within or old god shenanigans.

True.

I don’t mind shadiness. I’d like to see more groups within the Alliance willing to do shady things. We need a new Fandral Staghelm doing bad stuff.

The problem with the purge squads is that it’s needless shadiness. Alliance never used “purge squads”, not even against its worst enemies. Not even the gear used by the mods makes sense, it seems something out of the Twilight’s Hammer. And yet there they are, attacking a mostly neutral race.

There are better ways to portray the Alliance attacking the vulpera. Detaining caravans and keeping the vulpera prisoners. Just changing the mobs’ names and gear could be enough.

Purge squads is a bit too much.

I don’t play alliance, but from what I know of Shaw I feel like that is the role he is suppose to fill. Maybe Jaina?

Yeah, really cranked things to up 11 there…

I mean… no, not really. They did do internment camps and orc slavery after the second war, but not genocidal purge squads. Alliance does have its shady history, mostly between WCII and WCIII and then there is Garithos but that horse has been beaten to death already. He was a bad apple.

I feel like the Alliance is very polar in its “shady” members. They are either fully evil (Garithos and Blackmoore) or super duper good bois.

Yeah, it certainly does not look very uniform like. We also know that from the alliance side of these incursions that Shaw told forces to destroy the caravans but not kill the Vulpera, for the reason that they were transporting Horde resources. So its painted very much in the light that the Vulpera were not to be harmed.

And see, that’s what I believe was the original Alliance Side intent. At least from a players perspective in what we were suppose to know.

Yeah, again, it certainly feels like the Alliance went from 1 to 11 pretty fast. There really has to be something going on in the shadows that no one is aware of.

Hmm. Interesting conspiricy theory beased on this incompleate information.

puts on tinfoil hat

The Alliance attacks to trains to keep supplies away from the Horde in this otherwise harsh area. Sylvanas, wanting to secure the loyalty of the vulpera, disguises her own people/hires mercs to imitate Alliance soldiers working as a purge squad to make the foxes hate the Alliance more and drive a wedge between them and the sethrak, as an alliance between the two would be a force she’d have to negotiate with and give concessions too, rather then one she controls more fully because they came to her looking for help!

Edit: It would also have a side effect of pushing the war narative more for the rest of the Horde, especially folks like orcs who still remember the camps the Alliance used to run.

Last I saw of the PTR they only changed the name from “Purge Squad” to “7th Legion Despoilers”. Makes it sound more official being related to an iconic Alliance force, but at the same time makes them out to be a rogue element that will most likely get condemned if and when Blizzard wants leaders like Anduin to address it.

Or not address at all, since WQs are questionable canon.

Yeah, most likely the case.

Really, the foreshadowing isn’t exactly subtle; the Vulpera NPCs may as well all wear t-shirts reading, “Future Horde Race”. Gotta be real here: to hope for Alliance Vulpera is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

There is only one neutral vulpera, and that’s in the dungeon, Freehold, when it winds up being her helping you kill the other two pirates lol

otherwise they’re all hostile towards you (except with warmode off, you can go into the camp without them attacking but that doesn’t count)

There’s no chance for them to be alliance if all we ever meet are negative encounters with them. So people saying they MIGHT go alliance?..how? lol

While I actually prefer the Alliance, it’s pretty clear at this point in the expansion that the Vulpera are a Horde fit. Especially after the Q&A with Ion when he said that they wanted to give the Horde something cute to balance the aesthetics.

I just wish they’d announce something to build the hype. Allied races were supposed to be such a big deal and it’s taken a loooooong time to get the KT/Zandalari and there’s been such silence on what comes next.

and it’s actually because of what he said the alliance was going to get that I have my hype for the Sethrak…I know it seems unlikely NOW…but I’m REALLY hoping something develops in 8.1 to further the relationship.

But as you said…there has been so LITTLE info, especially with the alliance side of things for 8.1, we know of a lot of horde events and the vulpera wq and other quests…but what about alliance? Great so we unlock a new 2-boss raid, whoopdidoo lol
