Vulpera Discussion Megathread (Part 1)

I think most of us sussed out from the very beginning that the Vulpera would be Horde-exclusive, so Alliance aggression against the Vulpera was bound to happen sooner or later. The Vulpera NPCs in Vol'dun will now probably escalate from "just" being unfriendly toward Alliance players to attack-on-sight, like they were in Beta.
As long as alliance get sethrak then all will be fair in the world...… of Warcraft. NO STINKER TRASH COMPACTOR GNOMES PLEASE.

these supposed mech gnomes better be freaking fascinating.

It HAS to the Sethrak coming out with Vulpera. The Alliance would have a collective stroke from the rage otherwise

I really, really hope it is but I get the feeling that Alliance is sorta the "lesser child" to Blizzard. Often we see Horde content getting worked on first and Alliance stuff gets cut or rushed when they run short on development time. The Cata races are a good example; goblin models were in and only needing a few bug fixes at the start of the alpha, whereas worgen were still being worked on right up to launch and were left pretty much half-finished.

I'm seeing the same with the Vulpera vs. the Sethrak and it worries me. Vulpera are so nicely polished with all their animations and customisation done, you can clearly see Blizz has put a lot of love and effort into their development. Whereas Sethrak are lacking a lot of animations and only have skin colour and piercings for customisation. With all the development problems BFA has had I can just imagine Blizz deciding that it's too much work bringing them up to player-quality and shelving them in favor of something easier.

I might be wrong, they could just have been working on the Sethrak behind the scenes all this time. But the track record makes me more pessimistic than hopeful.

As I've pointed out before, several months prior to BfA's release, the updates that were trickling in for both Vulpera and Sethrak came to an abrupt halt at exactly the same time. This leads me to believe that at that time work shifted behind closed doors as what was available was deemed "good enough" for launch and signed off.

This means the team has had roughly five months of time to continue working on the models, and given the progress we've seen on Vulpera in the few months we WERE getting beta updates, I'm confident Sethrak are looking good now as well.

Five months + however long the patch is that actually launches them, so it could be a very hefty amount of time considering all the legwork they've done already with those currently in game.

It's exciting!
I’m not totally opposed to Junk Gnomes, but not as a companion allied race to Vulpera. Basically it’s Sethrak or riot for me at this point. Unless they completely blindside us with like a good faction of Naga or Drakonids or something.

And given that interview where they say they’d like to give the Horde something cute, cool, different and the Alliance something more monstrous, larger. I mean which two new races fit that bill? Junker Gnomes sure don’t.

I completely agree.

Techgnomes COULD be really neat, if done right.

But they would be a terrible thing to pair with Vulpera, better they come with something more along the lines of San'lyn

Edit: also, why can't I get the term "Techgnomes" to catch on?
The only way I want Vulpera playeable is if they drastically change the flavor of Vulpera. This cute but deadly non sense is ridiculous... or if they are going with cute but deadly, at least get rid of Nisha's Batman voice. Her wannabe bad !@# schtick is lame.

We have playable gnomes, pandaren, and goblins, and deal with many other races that are nowhere near to uber-serious and edgy (hozen, ogres, dryads, fungarians, grummles, kobolds, etc.). Vulpera won't be some betrayal to the overall tone of game.

I'm sorry that not everything in WoW is Game of Thrones x Dark Souls crossover fanfiction. Many people really want to play Vulpera, and saying that you don't want anyone to play them because they don't align with your personal tastes just comes off as selfish. If Vulpera do become playable, you are not required to play them.

I apologize if my reply comes off as hostile, that is not my intent! *hugs* \(^ω^)/

As mentioned, it would seem the Alliance openly attacks the Vulpera Hideaway in 8.1

We told you this would happen if you went around licking people, Jena

I knew this would happen! In a way or another!
I do not feel any pride in attacking vulpera, but they would not go to the Horde without a push given by the Alliance!

And the story goes on !!!

If/when Vulpera become playable, I would love if the males sounded more like Kiro than the generic Male npc <3

I really like Kiro’s voice, so I would love that as well.

We all agree that Kiro's voice makes us melt right?

That is frighteningly good voice acting.

There damn well better be some in game lead up to this, otherwise there's 0 reason for it. The alliance player side story has had no interaction with the Vulpera in vol'dun, otherwise our only serious experience with them is as pirates in freehold and tol'dagor which depending on the day and BAC they're either neutral or unfriendly.

To make a long post short, I really don't like the idea of forcing a faction that the alliance has had zero actual interactions with to pick a side.

Could be that they see horde helping them and then just pre-emptively strike them.

Then they actually join the horde for protection.

Quite honestly, I'm expecting it to be a situation like what happens between the Alliance and the Zandalari -- the aggression against the Hideaway is an attempt to scare the Vulpera into severing their ties with the Horde, but things go wrong and the plan backfires on us.

That, or we mistake the Hideaway for a bona fide Horde outpost, not realizing that it's actually a Vulpera settlement where the Horde is free to come and go.

Either way, we end up pissing them off to the point where they officially throw their lot in with the Horde. Go us.

The Alliance could stand to dirty their boots a little in the story. A little Vulpera blood on their hands might give them a taste of what it's like to take orders from her highness the Lich Queen and her lackey Popsicle McSnarky
couldn't care less about vulpera they seem pretty lame to me but all customization is good I guess

This here. I greatly respect that you can personally not care for something but still allow others to enjoy it.

The world needs more of this attitude.

Thank you
Sadly, Blizz seems to write stories in a rather ham-fisted manner. So, for no reason that would convince a 4 year old, the Alliance will probably commit a war crime against the Vulpera, driving them into The Horde.

For the record, I am totally fine with Vulpera being a 'Horde only' allied race. I just hope the Alliance gets Sethrak.
When I first saw the Sethrak I was hoping to have them as a playable race. But then the Vulpera came along and I just ended up liking them a lot better. The Sethrak are cool, but the Horde need a short cute race.

I have high hopes in Sethraks!
I hope Blizzard does not kill hope!
