Does anyone who lives on the East coast of Australia use a VPN (nordvpn specifically) to connect to America? And if so does it help with latency issues at all?
It really depends on the VPN and whether it offers a more direct route to the game server. For example, when I was playing SWTOR, I used Bitdefender VPN and managed to reduce my latency from 320ms to 250ms. I’d recommend reaching out to NordVPN’s support team to see what they suggest.
Okay, wasn’t sure how they work to be honest. I know some people report more stable connections with them and others don’t see a change.

(even phasing with Frostmourne i got the above results.
And you always have to exit Bnet before activating the VPN.
Thank you for that. I wish this latency issue could get sorted. I don’t really notice 100-150, but 350-400 is just shockingly awful to play with.
I’m near Adelaide and my VPN is in Melbourne (or, optionally, Perth), so sometimes the VPN slows group content (like Raids) down to a crawl (total red bar), yet other times it’s totally fine.
Yeah its getting pretty bad. I’ve been declined from a number of Pvp communities, since they don’t want someone with a bad ping in their groups. Sucks for sure, but I understand their point of view.
It is funny though when we host an EBG I’m running solo in, and all the americans complain about 500ms. I respond that it’s 15ms for me…hehe
Vpns always slow down your connection slightly… the sole exception is if they route you around a damaged network node. That isn’t a common thing though and is the exception not the rule.
I was kinda hoping that’s what would happen here. This current issue with lag is only relatively new. I haven’t tried to do an arena in ages because every time I do I just tank further.
I transferred my main from NA to OCE yesterday over the recent lag issues. Moved from NYC to Sydney 9+ years ago, maybe the time has come for you to change as well.
I moved everything over to Frostmourne YEARS ago.
I know there is lag expected. I’ve played this game from Australia since 2008. The normal lag is not the issue, the issue is the current lag I’m getting in pvp is double or more the normal 150ish.
When I had all my toons on Muradin years and years ago my lag was always around 225. If I get on a U.S based server now it rockets up over 700. This is not normal, and apparently there is a known issue with the underwater cable between N.A and Aus according to someone in another thread.

The lag has definitely gone up in the last 6 weeks or so.
Yeah, in pvp I’ve been just gifting precog non stop so I actually quit doing rss. On my screen they were half way through the kick or less, while in reality they were well and truly done and now had precog. My rating plummeted and it took me a bit to figure out what was going on.
My dps was lower, I was dying easier, and I couldn’t land a kick. The game didn’t play like my lag had more than doubled, there was no skipping around, everything still looked fluid, but it wasn’t.
