VPN and Battle.net

Blizzard,

Can you please make the Battle.net launcher more friendly to those who regularly use a VPN?

I use a VPN for a variety of reasons, and my VPN server is co-located in my same state. I can surf the internet fine, watch streaming services like Netflix just fine, all my connectivity to everything is just fine, and I can even play World of Warcraft just fine.

But your Battle.net launcher just CHOKES. If you try to message a friend, you’ll be waiting 20-40 seconds every few words. Just clicking on the Battle.net window to bring it into focus is a long wait, and it will say “(Not Responding)” in the title bar. It always says “Oops! Something went wrong. We had trouble loading your content”. I can click to launch games and it is slow to let me even click the launch button - but then the game plays fine once it is launched.

Some of us use VPNs. I’m not trying to circumvent anything, my VPN server isn’t in some other country, it’s not even in another state. But I am your customer, and I use a local VPN, and I wish your Battle.net platform was more accommodating to that… please.

Same problem here, it also happens sometimes when I wake my computer up from sleep. It seems to be a recent problem as it was working fine for a long time. The issue seems to be that the remember me and keep me logged in options are no longer working properly.

VPNs are not supported by Blizzard and likely won’t ever be. You’re on your own. You can add an exclusion for WoW/BNet traffic though and allow them to go through their regular routing, make sure to include the wow\retail\utils\wowvoiceproxy.exe as well.

It’s most likely caused by the routing by the VPN. It’s very likely that the data center where the app server is and your gaming server are in two different locations.
