Volume of Other Programs Increasing

When I open WoW, the volume of other programs that I have running increases by about half.

If I’m listening to music or watching a video at volume 1, when I tab into WoW, the volume of the music is increased to 1.5 (or about that). Tabbing back out to any non-WoW program returns the volume to it’s original.

I’ve looked through the sound settings and can’t seem to find anything to change that seems relevant. Is there something I can check or an obvious setting that i may be missing?

Hello Imarobot!

Are you using voice chat, or using a headset even without voice chatting? The main setting I’m aware of that might adjust app volumes automatically is a Windows one, related to headsets (when configured specifically as a ‘comms device’).

Let’s check and change how Windows behaves when it detects communications devices:

  1. Hit Windows key and type sound.
  2. Go to the Sound options.
  3. Click the Communications tab.
  4. For the setting “When Windows detects communications activity”, set it to “Do nothing”.

Best of luck in your adventures

Thanks for the reply.

Here are some specifics that might help:
I’m using a Logitech G933 headset. I use Discord for voice com, but don’t talk often. The sound volume only changes when I tab to something else.

I checked the suggested setting. It was already set to ‘Do Nothing’.

Imarobot,

That’s really odd! O.o Are you using Logitech Gaming Software? If you uninstall that and reinstall the latest version, does the problem correct itself?

I’m using Logitech’s G Hub (which is apparently their fancy new interface). I’ll give it a reinstall and see what happens.

No change. The problem persists after reinstalling the logitech software.
Here’s an example of the problem I’m having, fwiw:

This does sound like something altering the playback settings in a weird way, but its hard to say what that would be. Does this happen across all playback devices, or just these headphones?

I tried replicating the issue with other headphones and speakers but could not. This led me to conclude that it was a Logitech issue.

I began looking for various settings inside the Logitech interface and found that while my WoW had it settings on default, my ‘desktop’ was set to Comms (which apparently lowers the volume to allow easier voice communication). I must have changed a setting somehow w/o knowing what I was doing.

Changing the desktop setting to default (matching the WoW setting) solved my problem.

Thanks for being you.
