4th Mage spec, Void, or Shadow? Um, something based off Xylem?
I’ll shut up now.
4th Mage spec, Void, or Shadow? Um, something based off Xylem?
I’ll shut up now.
So basically a shadow priest?
No, don’t shut up. Void Spec would be nice.
I roleplay my VE Shadow Priest as a Void Mage actually.
Unfortunately, that would void their warranty.
Basically Shadow Priest, yes.
Also a quote from when doing the Xylem Mage Tower Challenge.
One of the inner circle apprentices told me “One must master the traditional schools before delving into the realm of shadow.”
I think that was supposed to be a hint.
So there could be some argument to be had here.
Maybe.
Sounds like a warlock.
But Warlocks are all about Fel.
Warlocks use fel and shadow. Affliction’s spells are mostly shadow magic.
I was being sarcastic Alamara, that has often been the excuse dumped on me whenever I suggest Warlocks use more void flavored spell coloration.
Oh god I’m imagining a Void themed Archmage’s Prismatic Disk. Elune help me.
Oh, sorry.
I’ve been tempted to try an affliction warlock, but can’t decide on the race…
Oh sweet mercy I just had a brain storm. Void Spec Mages could focus on Shadow frost. Which would perfectly tie in with Void elves Entropic Embrace which gives Shadowfrost damage.
Alliance or Horde?
Any. I decide on my characters by thinking of a background story. Void elf is a natural choice for that, but I feel very little empathy towards them in general and already made a void elf shadow priest that’s stitting at 40. I also have an undead destrolock at 120, so I’m avoiding to make another undead lock.
I’m considering an allied race to earn its heritage armor eventually. But I already have nightborne heritage, so… the choices are really thin there. Maybe dark iron? I made a dark iron fire mage, but he’s sitting at 20, never played him.
Yeah, that’s the background I made up for my velf “priest”.
Well can’t go wrong with Orc, like what I did with Garzok he’s an ancient Orc who studied at the feet of Gul’dan but considers his way of doing things wrong and that Demons should serve the Horde, not the other way around.
Blood elf is also a good choice, a darker Blood Mage focusing on Chaos.
Troll for the Voodoo.
Alliance side is much more difficult, Gnomes from my understanding don’t hold Warlocks in the same contempt as other races but they are still careful around them.
Dark Iron would fit pretty well, they are naturally gifted in the sorcerer arts and have an affinity with shadow and flame.
Void elf works too, though to be honest a Shadow Priest honestly works better due to the managing of the Insanity resource (which all Void elves have to deal with) It’s just the whole having access to Light magic as well which in all reality should cause an explosion every time a Void elf handles it. At least with Undead it just causes intense pain like submerging your hand in fire.
This idea caught my eye.
Unfortunately the spec is really bad for M+ plus the GCD makes this spec really awful to play
But it is good for raiding
I say split Shadow off from priest, make two more void themed specs to form a Void Mage class, and give Priest a Holy themed DPS spec to replace shadow. I’ve always found it very annoying that there are no Holy DPS caster specs in the game.
There you go, if memory serves in the prelaunch event for Cataclysm when we were getting the Gnomes and the Trolls their home back the Trolls summoned Bwonsamdi to help with Zalazane. Bwonsamdi commanded them to follow the old ways to venerate his name. Then in Cataclysm Trolls got Warlocks. So I think there’s correlation there.
I make alts mostly to level up and have an idea of how something plays. My focus remains on my triad, which currently are (in order of most to least played) this hunter, a nightborne mage and a human paladin.
The problem with that is how pissed off priest players would be if they lost the spec, even if the Holy version would play essentially the same. Some people choose their characters by theme, after all.
But yeah, this game needs a proper void-based class.
Oh I understand that completely, and I know my suggestion will never happen (I myself am someone who favors theme when choosing a class). I think any backlash could be alleviated to an extent though if they gave players with high level priests a free Void Mage only level boost token or something like that.
Ultimately though the most we could probably hope for when it comes to additional void specs is either a melee void class or a void themed 4th spec for Paladins.
I think they should do an elven- and troll-based shadow class that uses Warden (tank), Shadow Hunter/Dark Ranger (ranged DPS) and Witch Doctor (Healer) as inspiration for the specs.
