Void Elves or Ethereals?

Was kind of doing the Lorewalking thing and I kind of got to wondering. Should Alliance have gotten Ethereals instead of Void elves for the “Void” race? I like Void elves but at the end of the day they are just recolored Blood elves.

Definitely Void Elves, got a great uptake.

I think Alliance got Void Elves, not because they are “void” related, but because they are “elf” related. Alliance had been begging for them for ages (still are, because void elves aren’t good enough I guess).

I’ve been begging for Ethereals since Burning Crusade, and want them for their own sake. But they strike me as more of a faction-neutral race, as the various Ethereal factions have always treated Horde and Alliance the same way

True, course I wouldn’t be surprised if they went Alliance anyway. No one seems to like the Horde these days.

Void elves were the right choice for sure.

Ethereals just wont work as a race. They lack the distinguishing features needed for character customisation.
What makes them stand out is their outfits. Put them in regular player gear and they will look ridiculous and nothing like the race people love.

By the way, did Blizzard ever address Dracthyr armor or have they completely washed their hands of it as they typically do?

I would have preferred Ethereals to void elves for Alliance, yes. And Mok’nathal instead of Nightborne for Horde.

Nothings changed there. Same as when they released as far as im aware.

Hm, pity.

“High elves at home”
People didn’t want purple tinted tenticle hair freaks. They wanted the high elves that have been in the alliance forever, and still want highelves with highelf racials and not turn purple and smooo around with clunky racial portal with void themed armor and a capital “city” thats more void.
Can you blame them? Besides its on brand for pointy earned humans.

I’ll tell you the same thing I tell everybody else who wants ethereal as a playable race. They are swirling energy wrapped in mummy bandages. We can’t have them as a playable race because a they don’t have a visage and they cannot wear regular armor, which means everybody would complain both about the physical appearance and the lack of transmit ability. At this point, I kind of wish people would stop asking for them because obviously they haven’t taken the time to consider the two biggest roadblocks.

Honestly I’d say Dracthyr solved those particular roadblocks myself. Just give Ethereals an extensive character customization, perhaps have unlockable customization armor (bandage) options for dungeon runs or something. But that’s my two cents on the matter.

Yes. By doing shady deals with them, then stabbing them in the back— usually quite literally.

I’d hate to see Ethereals ruined by becoming a playable race. See: the travesty that is Nightborne.

The only way to get an ethereal to work as a regular character is to give them a visage. If you give them a visage, they are no longer ethereal. Their entire being is made up of light and energy. If they take some other form, they are no longer ethereal. There’s an entire dungeon and burning Crusade that taught us that. Even the big bad boss was still twirling energy and bandage wraps. There is no way to make an ethereal workable as a playable race unless you give them a human form and then they are no longer ethereal. It doesn’t get more simple than that.

Alright alright, horrible idea. Sorry.

You don’t have to apologize. Everybody’s entitled to an opinion and they are entitled to express that opinion and discuss the options available to it. I’m just saying that if you wanna play an actual ethereal, there are extreme boundaries.

How would this be the only way they could work? That doesn’t make sense.

As Kaznarok said, Dracthyr have extensive character customization. They could’ve made ethereals like they did with Dracthyr forms, and they could just not be able to wear armor. It’s not as if restrictions don’t already exist with certain races like Mechagnome.

Sounds like a lack of vision.
You can easily take the ball of energy the brokers had as a head and just… use that. It can wear helmets fine. Same with the body.

This complaint seems silly because every race puts armor on that.hides their body and the only thing that differentiates them is animations

Dracthyr are a crime against customization. They need to be fixed, not used as inspiration for how to make races wrong.

People have HAD high elves with high elf racials and a high elf city since Burning Crusade
