So, I’d like to play a Darkfallen but can’t afford the faction transfer so I’d like to understand how a Void elf Darkfallen is possible. Anyone better versed in the lore able to give an explanation?
I know this was done mainly because the VE and BE models are the same and it was easy for them to do. I’m interested in lore explanations for their existence, not gameplay reasons.
The only thing I can think of is they were created with the Night Elves during the Battle for Darkshore (even tho no VE NPCs are present).
They could be Dark Rangers that were studying the Void with Magister Umbric and got exiled along with him, or Dark Rangers that are now defecting from the Horde to the Alliance to study under Alleria, or many other possibilities.
Until otherwise stated by Blizzard, I’m going off the assumption that they were the Dark Rangers that felt ostracized by the Horde that Velonara mentioned in the questline, and Alleria offered them refuge in the Void Elves - and the only reason they have VE racials is gameplay reasons.
Nope. Best guess is they were raised at the Battle for Lordaeron when all those void elves showed up. But the unlock chain provides them with absolutely no lore at all and not a single one even exists besides the PC yet. In lieu of any actual lore you may as well cook up whatever backstory makes sense to you.
I was under the impression that the Void Elves creation was a one time thing when they were toying with the Void. I didn’t think new Void elves could be created presently.
They mentioned it at the end of the questline. All Darkfallen who wish to return to their respective factions were allowed to. Darkfallen Velonara made the implication that these Void Elven Darkfallen are High Elves who wished to return to the Alliance, which makes sense. In the Sylvanas book we learn that Sylvanas was not their first choice many preferred Alleria Windrunner, but she went off to Draenor and chose to follow her heart.
Considering the events of the Fourth War it appears these Darkfallen felt this was the right time to reach out and join their Void Elven kin and were quickly recruited and absorbed into the Thalassian exile faction.
I’m just going with they were void elves who died during the Fourth War and resurrected by Sylvanas. I mean, void elves were already a thing in War of Thorns/they could have fought in Darkshore.
We were also sending void elves in our mission table. Who is to say some of them didn’t die/get necromancied by Sylvanas?
It could be both. Void Elves died during the Fourth war and were resurrected or they could be High Elves who died during the Third War and decided to defect now that they and the kaldorei Dark Rangers can return to whomever faction they wished too. Considering how many of these rangers in life served under Alleria Windrunner, before she was lost beyond the Dark Portal. I think you can make many reasons and excuses.
I’m hoping for an explanation where the Void Elf racials are used but Blood Elf Darkfallen aren’t changed either so I guess I may have to accept that Darkfallen racials are gameplay only.
Got a quote? I’ve watched the Alliance version and don’t remember anything like this being said at all. The only Alliance-specific lore is an extra line about the night elf DRs AFAIK.
She does talk about the kaldorei going back home, but the “Silvermoon shunned us until we found a home here in undead Lordaeron” stuff is clearly in reference to herself.
If you approach her, she mentions the Darkfallen who wished to return will be allowed to do so. It’s a rather vague comment, but I figured that’s their way of justifying Thalassians Darkfallen joining the Alliance under the Void Elves.
It’s not vague, and maybe that’s the problem. She specifically says the kaldorei will be permitted to leave, and gives an abridged history of her own sect, the Darkfallen highblood elves who now belong to the Forsaken. She even thanks you on behalf of that latter group. This little RP plays for both factions, and I imagine it’s where OP’s confusion comes from; void elf Darkfallen or turncoat Forsaken dark rangers (???) aren’t mentioned at all.
Like Maizou said in the other thread, they should’ve provided a lore basis for VE dark rangers or kept it between the races this customization actually makes sense on.
I honestly think they could just be Darkfallen who defect to the Alliance rather than being actual “Void” Elves. It’s a bit confusing with the gamplay mechanics involving the racials, but i can see that being the case.
It’s funny that the racial name is “Void Elf” when now, there’s a a growing number of Thalassian subgroups under this umbrella. Playable Void Elves can represent a number of these factions.
Umbric’s Origional Void Elves
Silvermoon Scholars & High Elf Wayfarers
Untainted Silver Covenant High Elves
Darkfallen/Dark Rangers
That’s not to say Darkfallen couldn’t also be Void users either. I guess that could be another group within its own.
The path to becoming a Dark Fallen Void Elf Ranger (Sounds like a Teenage mutant ninja pirate turtle) is unlikely. You first have to become a Dark Fallen Ranger. (Which makes you one of the Forsaken and there are probably only a few dozen of them) Then you have to decide to abandon the Forsaken. “Forsake” you fellow Blood Evles, and follow Alleria into an Alliance that already rejected your kind.
Impossible? No. But I’m not sure you should get even 50-50 odds of there being even one.
But if you want to image your character as the one who did. OK…
I think the most straightforward (but not only) explanation for having the Void Elf racials would be that they were Void Elves who were killed and then raised at Darkshore at the same time as the undead Night Elves. We know that the Night Elves weren’t strictly the only ones being raised, as Lorash was a Blood Elf who got brought back, so I think it would make sense for Sylvanas to have tried raising both some fallen Horde soldiers as well as some fallen Alliance who weren’t Kaldorei. Maybe your hypothetical player character was a solitary Void Elf champion working with a mix of Alliance troops rather than a specific Ren’dorei unit. Maybe they were just visiting a Worgen friend in Darnassus, caught in the wrong place at the wrong time when the Horde arrived. Maybe they were a Forsaken dark ranger who fought against the Old Gods in 8.3 and got bitten by a radioactive void spider while raiding Ny’alotha, and they joined the Ren’dorei to get a better understanding of their new powers. Feel free to get creative about how and where your character ended up undead and voidy!
In Telogrus Rift there are Blood Elves and Void Elves studying under the Void Elves. With the Blood Elf customizations added to Void Elves it is suggestible that Elves that were not caught up in the attempted Ethereal conversion but still studying the Void are calling themselves Void Elves.
Didn’t read all the responses but I think the most likely options are:
High Elves who were in Lordaeron when Arthas killed everyone
“Darkfallen” former High Elves who died in Quel’thalas and raised by Sylvanas who prefer the Alliance over the Horde
Darkfallen raised by Arthas (DKs, Sanlayn) who are either of the above
I think an Actual Void Elf who is Actually Undead per se isn’t too likely but not impossible per se, maybe they were raised during the pre-Shadowlands Scourge invasion
