Rather than giving VEs customization options to make them closer in appearance to BEs they should have double downed on what makes them different.
(I wonder how many people will read past the first line.)
Imagine if VEs got void scarring or the ability to make parts of themselves ethereal-like. Make some spiky and fading or starry void hair options to compete with the tentacles.
I don’t so much have a problem with them getting more normal (at least as far as elves go) options as I have with the lack of options to make the two races stand apart. Two characters on different factions shouldn’t have the ability to look the same, especially if said factions are race-based. Nothing like killing your twin to promote faction identity.
I’m really hoping when they get to other allied race customization they make more options that make the race stand out, especially for void elf players that identify with the void elves and want them to be able to stand out among the “void elves” that look like blood elves.
I also want blood elves to get options that make them stand out more. Body jewelry isn’t really a good option in my opinion unless blizzard plans on making more revealing gear which would be much appreciated.

Void scarring would be pretty neat. Like little glimpses into the cosmos

Void elves don’t exist to be a void themed race.
They exist to poorly fulfill the high elves request.
Them stealing potential high elf allied race assets prove that.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again.
Void elves should have received Old God influenced customizations. Give them Qiraji exoskeletons, N’zoth eyes in other places, more tendrils, sha claws for hands, etc.
And quoting this little line for absolute truth. I hate what they’ve done with the void elves. Instead of being unique, we just made them like everybody else and effectively made blood elves neutral. In a game all about faction identity, this was the worst possible move. The worst.

Void scarring would be pretty cool!
I don’t necessarily agree they should have doubled down instead, but to give both those options in a way that allows people to make a Velf like Alleria or like Magister Umbric or something even cooler.

I want either transparent skin or a skin which looks VOID (with space black skin and white pinprick stars shimmering in and out or nebulae like drifting cloud effects)… That way I can make my Void elf look even more “night” themed. Kinda like Eternity from Marvel… where their skin/body makes it look like space personified.

Before the annocement there was an artist image of possible voud elf skins and it had the regular skin tones BUT the arms and legs were purple. I thought that would have been a great compromise. Regular skin tons but still void touched.
I am just one voice and I am happy people are happy about the options but it’s not like Nightborne are going to be getting Nightelf skin tons after all this.

Oh oh oh me me I would looooove Sha claws for hands! (hunters don’t have enough gloves with claws)
I really like the suggestion about having more eyes, that just sounds cool
but I do like that we can have less void looks too. The idea we have actual control over the void to an extent is a cool concept. It keeps the shadow priests a little different too because they give into the void while the elves are resisting it.
The looks we got all looked the same so to have a choice to not look like what they gave us is good in my book. All the allied races seem to have weak customization choices as far as different choices go. High elven look isn’t a bad thing to have on both sides at all imo. Pandas look the same but they follow different paths which is just adding to the Pandarens potential as a character that we can decide how to play.

So a vague niche that hasn’t been explored since their introduction?
Why would they double down on the reason they were unpopular story/lore wise?
Even Blizzard knows Void Elves should of been High Elves from the start, at this point they’re just trying to bandaid the problem

To be fair Void elf is the only choice I’d consider for this character barring Ethereals, but we don’t have those. Players might not like that they’re Void Elves and not “High” Elves but the Void Elves do fill a niche that needed to be filled in the Alliance: an edgy darker race.

I’ve talked about this before and you’re absolutely right, but they should of gone about it in a much better way.
It’s funny you mention ethereals because that’s exactly what they should of done for this “darker race for the Alliance”, Void ethereals like lotus walker who join the Alliance through Alleria, ethereals are not only a popular AR topic, but also are already established and well known in the game, they didn’t need to “try” and sate the High Elf request and the “dark theme” request in one shot and fail at both.

It is in a game that’s meant to be about faction identity. The Pandaren get zero development because they’re neutral. The devs had to be reminded Ji Firepaw exists. The blood and void elves are both just going to suffer at the hand of looking the same.

Absolutely, I would have gone bonkers over an Ethereal character with the Void Elf cosmetics we have now as armor, with any luck maybe we’ll see something an expansion or two down the road after Shadow Lands? Son of the Wolf is still on the table, and it’d be nice to see some of the customizations mentioned in this thread added as part of an expansion leading up to that future (albeit it earlier and less impactful to prolong the life of the MMO) as well as maybe some new story elements to the Void elves. I vote we Void/Shadow Priest out Anduin like they’ve been hinting at doing since Cataclysm/MoP…
When was the last time the blood elves really did anything anyways? I seriously don’t think the Pandaren being neutral is why they aren’t getting much love. It’s because blizzard has problems writing for a race and not for one single person to represent a whole race.

The recruitment quest already did this… Void elves are just void painted Blood elves.
Blizzard actually could have made the alliance High elves into their “void elves” or something even better, but they effectively made Blood elves neutral instead.

Well that and the whole “Sha” problem was basically the Pandaren’s “thing” besides constantly fighting the Mogu and Klaxxi, and we basically took care of all three as side plots in 8.3… not much to work with now on many of the Elves/Pandaren/Tauren and what not… most races just don’t have any story to be “involved with” anymore.

We’re quite a bit more than just “purple” Blood elves: We hear whispers and see future visions from the Void, bleed purple, can teleport, have naturally lower body temperatures and Void resistance etc.
