Your only way out of this is with subrace categories. That will fix this problem. But until then, having this split for the race appearances is just jarring at best
But honestly, the split race concept already happened with void elves, and humans, and death knights, where certain options are available for certain skin tones/face shapes/classes.
Humans are a diverse species, so it makes sense that have different races within their customization. it works for them. But going from a normal, untainted elf, to a completely different species of elf does not work. As with DK’s, that’s a class. It makes you undead, so you get death options. Not a split in the race.
So are elves! We have four species of playable elves alone in the game (five if you include High Elves)
How does having a void specific hairstyle make them a new species? Not trying to be hostile but confused.
And Death Knights have specific skin tones that work with specific faces. Humans have different faces, skin tones, and hair colors that are locked behind certain options. What is such a far stretch about having void elf hair options that work with the void skin tones? We’ve seen it work before in multiple races and classes.
Because void-based things are completely out of their aesthetic. Blizzard, no matter what is going on with a race, always keeps it in line with the aesthetic the race is trying to go for. Humans are diverse, but no matter what they still just look like humans. Void elves compared to high elves, on the other hand, could not be any different from one another, down to ideals, appearance, and even biology. The races in the game stick to an aesthetic for the race. That is because every option you choose for the race works with each option given. An orc, no matter how you make it, will look like an orc. And all its pieces will not mismatch it in a way that makes it look like it’s a combination of differing races. Void, and untainted elves, are just too radically opposing aesthetically to be able to work cohesively together.
So then what do you propose? You entered the thread saying that proposed void elf options shouldn’t be implemented because they don’t work for high elves, so what is your alternative?
And I’ll admit, it’s frustrating for me to see high elf fans ask for so many customization options and then enter a void elf customization thread and say it can’t work because it doesn’t work for them and their aesthetic. So if my frustration leaks through into my text, that’s why.
I did propose a subrace category. And if that’s out of the question then they have to design the race going forward to not go into an extreme on either front. Extreme void appearances would just not fit the high elf options, so they can’t be implemented. It’s teetering a very thin line, but it could work. It would make some people dissatisfied, but that is the state of things. Blizzard did not have to add our options to your race, but they did. We could have been our own race, but we are not. Now we both have to deal with that fact. We do not get paladins because of you, and you do not get extreme void options because of us.
Blood elf options were given to Void Elves, not the other way around.
Even if this were a good idea, and I don’t disagree that it isn’t, it would take too much manpower. Blizzard would have to overhaul all races to add this system. It would take a lot of manpower.
Then so be it. Void elves have already been left out to dry too many times, so they deserve extreme void options. Those shouldn’t be limited or shot down out of fear that they won’t fit the high elf aesthetic. They’re called void elves, and thus, that should be the aesthetic priority imo.
Uhhh no. I see where you’re going with this, but void elves don’t have paladins because of Blizzard. Not because of me or because of other players. That’s exactly the kind of diction that pits elf fans against each other.
If it bothers you just use options for one or the other.
Fenelon here is a void elf not a high elf.
More options and the ability to mix and match only helps people make the characters they want.
If you don’t like a hairstyle for your elf don’t use it.
I think you have specific ideas about what a high elf is and that’s fine but its just your view of it. I know many high elf fans who want the hairstyles above because they fit ranger type high elves.
And your desires aren’t better than anyone else’s.
So I’ll keep to the void theme as that’s what I and many others also want.
I’ll leave the high elf options to high elf folk in their threads.
Who are you to say what is and isn’t high elf or void elf appropriate anyhow?
Blizzard appears to disagree…
Yeah, no.
First off they’ve actually said they’re thinking about paladins…
Second the options don’t have to be for both.
Just like there’s only one thing in the troll kit to represent sand trolls.
And only two tattoos and a few colors to represent Wildhammer.
This is all silly.
Paladins would never work for void elves. The fact we have to share the race with you means we will never get one of the most fitting classes for the race. Void and light do not mix. The very implementation of void elves being void screwed that from ever happening.
It’s the very void aesthetic that high elf players hate so much that caused paladins to be off the table. So even if we did get everything else we wanted, that will never come to be. So there will always be animosity there.
Even if paladins were reskinned to be void knights, that isn’t what we want. We don’t want void aesthetic period when playing a high elf. So no matter what is band aid fixed to be done, it will never be a satisfying conclusion, and it’s all because void elves had to be void elves.
I disagree. Void elves can still get options. Why do they need to be so extreme? Why is it we could not find a middle ground appearance-wise that works for us both? We’ve had to leech off void elves for any sort of relevance. You say high elves got the most but really, void elves are fully fleshed out customization wise, while high elves remain unfinished. The hair styles suck for males, their blood is purple, their voices do not sound right, and the entropic embrace rips them out of being a high elf every time it procs. So when you see high elves asking for more, we do not do it because we are over fed and greedy, but because we are not finished and need to be complete.
What exactly do you want from wildhammers? They are literally just dwarves with tattoos. They still work with bronzebeard options just fine. The dwarves have always had wildhammer hair styles even before the tattoos were added. They are also just called dwarves, a very inclusive title. Not a bronze, or a wild, or any other type. You can choose what type of dwarf it is.
This we agree on. I also think the high elf aesthetic was a mistake to begin with, but that’s neither here nor there. That’s why I like to advocate for void themes, and don’t want to see those themes shut down on the pure idea that they don’t work with high elf themes (trying to bring this conversation back to its original starting point here, since it’s detailed).
There’s animosity here too, but the difference is that this is a thread to add void options, not remove high elf options. You came in here with the intention of saying void elf options can’t work because they can’t also work for high elves. Correct me if I misread your original post but that’s pretty verbatim.
So… We were talking about hair. Not paladins.
Void elves are extreme by nature. They have actual tentacles growing from their heads.
Blood elves. Not void elves. Not trying to be a butt here, but the void elves had to leech off of blood elves.
I have actually never said this. Not in this thread or another. Where did you get this?
So I get it. You don’t like void elves. But why are you coming into a thread for void customizations and trying to take away from it to find a high elf compromise? That’s not the point of this thread. We want void customizations. If you disagree that’s fine, you’re allowed to, but you’re moving against the room here. Read the situation.
You’re not asking for more options. At least not in your original post. You asked for previous ideas to not be implemented because they don’t work for high elves specifically. If you want a high elf option implemented, there are already countless threads for you. You came into a void elf themed thread, for void customizations, and said they don’t work for high elves. That’s what’s silly here imo
My entire point is that we are now one. We are both having to compromise on things. We are both unsatisfied, and losing out on what we want because we are a combined race. Now, we must compromise on appearances that work for us both. No extremes on any side. it’s the only way to be fair to us both going forward. If you don’t like that, then tell blizzard to do something about this odd union. But for now, it is what it is.
You stole my vibe.
Well I’m not blizzard so I can’t say for sure whether they’d give us just light based ones or void skinned ones or both.
With cross faction coming you could always just make a blood elf paladin and you’ll be set.
Blood elves only had a name change after all and they have blue eyes now.
Though given the lore if it were me using that method I’d use gold eyes for my high elf paladin.
High Elves are also connected to the Sunwell after all and the faithful will supposedly have their eyes turn gold.
I disagree, and I think this thread attests to that.
I want the same thing you do with high elves. I want them to be their own AR.
Properly presented with care and heritage and racials.
And I’m not going to hamstring regular dwarves for that want…
This.
It’s really odd to me that anyone would take that view.
I mean… Yeah kinda…
High Elves dont really take anything from void elves.
Except time.
Now I think on it I haven’t either…
Not interested.
I just don’t share your view that Void elves have to have every option work for both.
I made a compromise as a Blood Elf main to have to see my characters on the enemy faction. I don’t wish to make another compromise to give up void elf options for my Alts.
High elves have been on the alliance faction far before void elves were a thing. So that was a compromise you would have had to have made a long time ago. As early as bc. There were some alliance settlements with allied high elves in them. If you, a horde player, went to go and attack that settlement… guess who you’d be fighting? That’s right, alliance high elves. Cause they were marked for PVP and were factioned with the alliance. See how silly you are sounding now?
I don’t want a horde elf. I want to be on the alliance faction. Look at what I am wearing. This aesthetic only works because he’s alliance. Dawning the alliance flag and look works very well for high elves. it looks great on them. They were made for the alliance appearance wise. So making a blood elf paladin does not satisfy me.
Not as silly as someone coming into a void elf customization thread and complaining about high elf paladins, tbh. Goodnight.
Cadazamir.
This isn’t a high elf thread. It’s a void elf thread.
I long ago got tired of being buried in high elf customisation concerns over the void options I want or arguing through them.
Rest well.
Who says they are unwelcome? This is their own thread and there is no one unwelcome on a public forum. You don’t run this place.
You are in this thread harassing people over things other people did to you. It’s not this group. Chill out.
Those are great, I’d definitely love and Onyx tone along with some deeper more EE esque options.
These kind of offer a bit of everything, some EE stuff, various Void themed eyes, colored tentacles and even a fairly flattering all tentacle style. It also offers a couple High Elf options for those seeking that aesthetic as well. Fiercelord made these
Rama made this image as well, which pretty much shows exactly how I would love Hypheria’s hair to look;
Rama also made some new tattoo concepts, this one being my favorite;
The full post can be found on his Twitter here;
Ace also created some great new eye concepts.
A most eclectic selection demonstrating the potential the Void aesthetic has to offer
Ace also made a great Dark Phoenix tattoo variant for Void Elves that I adore ;
Lots of new stuff from the community’s artists, such passion and talent that I hope can make it into the game some day in some shape or form
