I think Blizzard isn’t really that concerned about the uniqueness angle. Time and again they’ve diluted that concept.
Personally I still favor differences as both races are not the same thing anymore. But thats just me.
I think overall having them both have exactly the same things across the board would be a bit redundant. Sharing things that are reasonable like hair styles (and honestly colors) even tattoos and such makes a lot of sense… but I’d never expect a Blood Elf to develop tentacles… y’know?
Yeah, I was thinking mostly hairstyles, hair colors, maybe recolored jewelry. But even with just those things, you could make identical characters on each faction which would be redundant. Although ig you could do that now already with bald characters
I suppose there’s two ways to see it.
Either you see it as redundant and you go with new things for each.
Or you see it as realistically both void and blood elves can obviously wear the same jewelry and hair and color their hair.
Or somewhere inbetween I suppose.
I think some reasonable things should be allowed. Focus on the things that make them different but if it’s something simple let it go.
Hairstyles, jewelry, tattoos (at least to an extent), hair colors, scars, blind options, damaged ears.
There is little reason for much of that to be restricted from lore or reasonability.
The thing is then everything blood elves have would be shared except for green and golden eyes. They would need to give belfs some other defining options otherwise velfs are just belfs+. I think that would be the only problem.
I don’t really care much though. I’m pretty indifferent about sharing. I do like how belf hairstyles look w/ velf colors and I’d like those but it’s no biggy. I’m just wondering if anything new will be given to us now with crossfaction
I get that.
The Blood Elf thread works on exactly that issue a bit here and there.
Its definitely a problem that could be solved a few ways. Minor changes to the jewelry and some tattoos that are shared but not others. Things like that.
Plus adding things that a Void Elf wouldn’t have like Phoenix inspired eyes and firey eyes.
Leaning into the Light aspect of the blood elves as well.
Definitions between races I do think are very important overall.
Can I just say that Velf hair colors with Belfs is really nice. >.>
But yeah, as far as the crossfaction we’ll have to see how it really goes.
I don’t think they’re going to make it so we’re just Neutral by any means. Though we’ll be able to play together, what we are will still be important both in lore and racials and such.
I think even with some sharing we’ll all still be ok.
And if they add things to both races that do not cross over and allow both to keep their identities I think that would be very good.
But yeah… we’ll have to see how far Blizzard is going to take it. Probably won’t see that till 10.0 at the earliest as they said there was a lot of decoupling that needs to happen on the back end.
I’m excited to see what happens. Hopeful to see more things for both Void and Blood Elves… not to mention so many other races and some new AR’s potentially.
Void Elves need to be redesigned to be more goth and emo appealing…
…for reasons…
Personally I don’t like redesigning a race once its out. Adding to is always good though. Or well… normally good. Lets say probably good.
Trust me it’s for a good reason
Imagine if all races were completely neutral. We could have so many different conflicts between specific groups and storylines going on that the world of warcraft would seem more organic and less rigid. The amount of possibilities between agreements and conflicts is pretty amazing when you think about it.
That’s very true.
Honestly kinda similar now you mention it to what Ion said in the interview.
Hmm…
Still I’d bet they’ll keep races a little more unique overall with some sharing where applicable.
Those stories though…
I could enjoy that.
Ah what void elves could have been had the high elf fans not dug their claws in.
I have my doubts that Blizzard knew what they wanted to do for Void Elves honestly.
Either way, in the future its likely that Void Elves will get more Void options.
High Elf options made plenty of folk happy. It is what it is.
I prefer to look to the future for Void Elves.
This thread has plenty for Blizzard to get ideas from and pull from. Hopefully they’ll see it and we’ll get to have many wonderful additions to our race.
The only thing they ever stated was that wanted to copy Alleria but they even failed at that.
I don’t think the “High Elf Wars” would ever have become a thing if Void Elves had a lot more thought put into their implementation.
It didn’t even really become an issue until everyone found out it was a loreless group of Blood Elves that just happened to be studying the same thing as Alleria who just happened to hear about them before we just happened to save them at the right time to still look like elves.
Even any potential High Elf options fall firmly in the “Works for both” category so it is pretty much guaranteed that future additions will be Void based.
Still not convinced Blizzard has started reading any of the racial/customization megathreads.
Hopefully that opinion changes soon.
I meant more for the second round of customizations we got but yeah thats pretty much accurate.
I don’t know that the wars would have been or gone much differently if Void Elves were more thought out or not. Thats got too many variables for me to randomly guess at.
I mean I can think of a few ways that would have made them make more sense overall and allowed folk to feel more like they were connected to the High Elves they wanted to play, which I think for most would have helped…
But yeah. Hard to say.
That all said I feel we have a good enough base to work from and expand upon. Hopefully blizzard will take us someplace amazing down the line.
This I do agree with. Almost all the requests for High Elves I’ve seen still bouncing around generally will either be compatible or close enough to any Void options that I think mostly folk will be happy to either side of that spectrum.
Even paladin if done the right way would work out for both and thats about has contentious as the differences get these days.
Some folk I see asking for a change to the nameplate. I think that will only occur if Blizzard adds in a Sub-Race concept.
Which will help out a lot more than High-Void elves.
Still dreaming of my proper Wildhammer Dwarf.
Eh yeah.
I feel that.
I remain hopeful and optimistic though.
The doors are open to us. Blizzard just needs to let us walk through them.
Some wonderful tints for our heritage armor brought to us by Fiercelord!
Very nice! I think I like the first one most.
Me too! I’ve always been a fan of those off-gold…I guess gold types? I don’t really know how to describe the look.
Rosegold maybe?
Me too though.
My Riftblade would use parts of the Silver lining one… But Fenelon he I think would wear the rosegold well.
They’re really nice… Gonna try to get up the nerve to see if Fiercelord might take tint requests… I don’t like giving people work.
Asking Lancelot or Somand whom I know and talk to regularly is so hard to do on its own.
Always appreciate Fiercelord’s work though! It’s always top notch!
Yeah, rosegold sounds about right.
The work looks good!
Oh I hope so. Having more customizations would be good, especially for all the races that are lacking the customizations, one of them being Void Elves to keep relevance to this thread.
But I don’t want to get my hopes up yet on customizations unless it is confirmed.
