Voice chat is using compueter resources

even though I am not using it. Fix this or give us an option to disable this!

Thanks!

This is an issue for me as well. Even using parental controls to disable voice chat does not completely fix the problem. I really wish it was possible to disable it without using parental controls.

This has been a problem for me ever since the change was implemented. My solution is to tab out CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill the process. Sadly, this is only a temporary (and time-consuming) fix as it will reactivate when I log in again or with a different character, but I definitely see an improvement in game performance once it has been killed. Please, please give us a way to toggle this off in system controls.

Thank you for the info. I’ve been digging around for a good long while now trying to figure out why WoW is so slow on my new laptop. I’ve updated drivers, tried every suggested fix I could find, dropped my graphics settings… the works, and I’m still seeing poor performance. I will give shutting down voice a go as soon as the servers come back up.

And just tried to shut down the voice chat. It simply restarts itself back up post patch. So much for that fix. :frowning:

I ran into the same problem. The new patch must have changed the parameters for restarting because it didn’t do it before if you killed the process.

I tried to delete the .exe file (in my setup, the file is located at:
WoW/ _ retail _ /Utils
with the file name “WowVoiceProxy.exe”)
but deleting the file simply forced a repatch when I launched the game.

Currently I’ve got a blank file renamed WowVoiceProxy.exe after moving the original. I recommend having the original in a backup location just as a precaution (always good to keep the original file), even though the launcher will patch you a new one.

This is just a workaround, but once again - gameplay seemed noticeably improved after the Voice Chat was disabled. I don’t use any form of voice chat… but if I wanted to use one I would not use Blizzard’s. There are better VOIP resources available that impact my system less negatively.

Even though I’m not using it at all, I would get extra lag every time I changed zones, especially when going into high-population areas (evidenced by messages indicating the connection to the Voice Chat had been lost, then restored).

Unnecessary, unattractive and unsolicited. Please give us an option to permanently disable Voice Chat through the system controls interface.

Good news is that it is no longer randomly turning on and sucking computer resources.

Bad news is every time I zone into a new zone or instance there is a delay (lag) due to the voice chat disconnecting and reconnecting.

An option to disable this “feature” would be nice. We are allowed to disable all other features so why is voice chat an exception? If I want voice chat I have other options I would prefer to use.

Add my and my wife’s name to the growing list of people wanting to disable voice chat. We don’t want it, don’t use it, and are totally unhappy we can’t get rid of it.

I understand why you created it, Blizz but please let us disable it since all it does is cause problems.

I too want to turn it off, or at least have the option to do so; it does cause lags and delays at times and adds resource loading on my system.

CTRL-SHIFT-ESC is the shortcut for the Task Manager directly

Travelagency uses a different operating system that doesn’t use that key combination to access the “System Monitor”, and as she stated previously, Task Manager is ineffective at permanently disabling the Voice Chat.
However, the method she’s using currently using (replacing the WowVoiceProxy.exe) is 100% effective at eliminating that resource drain. The error messages are a tad annoying but the load times are faster.
