Voice Chat, Disabling/Blocking

Here is the OS based ‘fix’ for this controversial invasion of privacy (and sometime causer of system issues). I had posted it for reference in another thread, but got hijacked by a troll who would not get off his self supplied soap box.

So, here it is. Use it, or not. Just giving you the option to block a process that I consider to be a huge violation of privacy and system security.

create a text file, rename to debugger.reg, edit, paste the following, save, right-click & select merge (or double click to run it), ok the pop-up notices, kill wowvoiceproxy.exe in task manager, fin

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\WowVoiceProxy.exe]
"Debugger"="systray.exe"

If Blizzard wishes to chime in, it is their forum and they could if they felt it was necessary… and yet, they have not (so far), so read into that what you will. Also, in all the time I have been blocking their VC, I have had no contact from them about it, nor any action taken against me for it.

I will not be responding to this post (any more), just putting it out there for reference, and it can be preemptively locked just to prevent trolls from climbing on their soap boxes.

And for those of us that don’t understand this… what exactly do we do with this file?

I got my anti-virus to block it when I joined a random party so it doesn’t pop up anymore. I no longer auto-join blizz’s voice chat when joining groups.

I can’t even.

Clarified the quick process instructions. If you want more details on what registry files do, feel free to google *.reg.
