Virtual Reality

Is there ever going to be a virtual reality type of component for WoW?

I think the more important question is, why would WoW need vr? I mean, I don’t think there will ever be a vr component unless it’s for transmog and even then, I still doubt it.

would it be usable on moonguard

Yes, but I don’t want to imagine that!

WoW VR is all fun and games until you encounter spiders the size of sheep. :fearful:

WoW in VR would put you at such a disadvantage that it would only be useful for RP. Right now, you can see what is all around your character, but in VR, you can only see what is right in front of you.

On Topic:
Probably not. WoW relies way too much on spatial awareness. Even playing in first person NOW is a total disaster. VR wouldn’t be any better, and Blizzard isn’t going to put in the development time and resources for essentially an RP Gimmick.

Tangent:
I still don’t think VR is going to be the “future of gaming” as some people see it. I don’t think we’re ever gonna get it to a point where it feels “right”. If nothing else, movement is the killer. It’s either slightly janky teleportation and nothing else… or you’re just using essentially a controller for movement while the VR handles the camera / interactables. I don’t see a hurdle being cleared in the near future that can get us beyond those 2 options. And I don’t believe something like “Full Dive” will ever happen. Like, literally ever. I don’t think VR games are going to disappear anytime soon - they’ll keep showing up as long as the technology is evolving, but I think they’ll remain an incredibly niche thing and never break out of that.

I think that VR is quite fun for FPS games. They have movement tracking / treadmills that handle the movement aspect.

As for “full dive” - I only hope that they have it by the time I am old and decrepit. Ready Player Two pretty much touches on all the benefits of a full dive VR… if they can pull it off. Just pray to Dogeking Musk that they make it happen.

it’s too disconcerting. it makes me physically ill. I get dizzy, and have straight up fallen down more than once while using my friend’s VR headset (playstation I think)

maybe in the future, there will be a solution for that, who knows.

I feel like the investment required for realistic movement to work kind of makes it not feasible as a mainstream thing. The “consoles” themselves might become more affordable over time, but if it requires a big ol’ slab of furniture hooked up to it to get full functionality… it’s not going anywhere.

Don’t start off with games that require movement. If you start off with games like Beatsaber, then work your way up, you’ll have a much easier time getting used to it.

Also make sure you don’t use the controller to turn - or if you do, make sure it is set to jump instead of smooth motion. That is where the biggest motion sickness issues came up for me.

VR PVP!
What could go wrong?

The treadmills are getting more and more affordable. I think they have decent bowl treadmills for around $1000 now. Similarly, they have some pretty cool seated solutions like Yaw that are also around $1000.

The bigger spiders are the less worrisome they are. Why? Bigger targets are easier to shoot :+1:

Stay tuned to goldshire, that’s the first place anyone will use it.

I don’t like the idea of vr. Being connected with wires and being a danger to be around.
Future 3D monitors is more exciting. Imagine seeing the spiders running at you at high speed from a distance.

I love the idea of being a danger to be around
