I finally got this pet, only to discover that it’s still coded to the wrong family. ![]()
Seems to be some sort of in-joke that I admit I don’t understand. Wowhead, for example, reports this about Violet Violence
Some very clever wizard or dragon or other magical being thought they were being clever when they decided to color an ice elemental purple for a very elaborate bit of wordplay. They were probably right.
I’m still trying to puzzle out why it’s a Beast.
Gratz on the achievement BTW.
Perhaps it’s a nod to how we ‘complain’ about the fact that Beast pets FAR outnumber the other Families.
Or, more likely, they simply put the wrong Family. It actually happens just about every other patch where something gets misclassified, and you have probably a 10% chance of someone noticing and caring enough to fix it before it goes to live. Otherwise, it’s a coin flip if it gets fixed later when someone finally gets around to it.
Some more examples are:
Pinkie: Beast when tallstriders are usually critter
Wicked Lurker: Beast when most Old God things are Magic
Shalewings: Elemental, but could definitely be Flying like the sporebats
Fathom Incher: Aquatic, but most snails/slugs are Critters
Quack-E: Aquatic, but is clearly a Mechanical pet, otherwise we’d have the Mech frogs there
One Slimy pet is a Humanoid, but the others are Aquatic when the slug at least could be Critter, so why single out the one?
Flayer Youngling: I never thought this thing was sentient enough to be a Humanoid, and fits more into Beast.
There’s plenty if you go to the Miscellaneous sections for the families on WarcraftPets, heh.
That said, I do feel like the Ducks could have been their first foray into a dual-family thing like Pokémon as an Aquatic/Flying. Instead of taking 50% damage they could take 25% from Flying and 25% from Magic.
