Violence Level Returned (Blood Effects) - With Video

Hello,

I was performing some testing to see what has been fixed or not fixed in the most recent build. I’m happy to report that it appears violence level (blood effects) have been added to Classic.

Apologies if this has been reported already. I mostly read the Classic Beta Test Forum and I have not seen mention of this return.

For reference:

Accepts settings in a range of 0-5, with each setting showing slightly more blood, and slightly more combat effects as the setting is increased.

0 No combat effects.
1 Blood, display of some combat effects.
2 Blood.
3 Bloody.
4 Bloodier.
5 Bloodiest. Highest violence level. A lot of gore.

(I tried to upload to Imgur, but it seems to be stuck on “1 image uploading…”).

The video's violenceLevel set to 5. I don't see this option expressly identified within the interface options. To set the violenceLevel to 5 once Classic is released, please use the following commands:
/console violenceLevel 5

OR

/console SET violenceLevel 5

Additionally, you may make changes to the console settings by exiting the game, navigating to the appropriate file destination for your WoW Classic Beta Test install, open the WTF folder, and open Config.wtf with a basic text editor such as Notepad.

Example directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\WTF or C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\WTF\Config.wtf

Tested on Classic Version 1.13.2 (30979) (Beta x64)

Edit: Additional testing performed on a L1 Human Female Paladin in response to another thread. violenceLevel 1 produces green blood effects.

Good looks homie

This is good. It shows that they are making progress on things.

Doing the lights work! Thank you! Perfect amount of proof!

I won’t turn it on myself, but I’m glad it’s back in the game. There’s something retro and nostalgic about the cheesy gore in early 2000s games.

It’s funny but when people brought this up earlier I had no idea what they were talking about. But now seeing the video I remember it.

It would be nice if beta had a changelog so we knew what was fixed, it would probably help people’s general pessimism about bugs with the beta

I know! It’s nice to see it back in action!:slightly_smiling_face:

While true, I find it frustrating they don’t notify us of what they’ve fixed.

Yes! You’re welcome! I’m happy I could report back the positive change back to vanilla! I thought the videos would be good to let people get an actual idea of what is going on in-game with violence levels. The default appears to be level 3.

Haha. It is very retro for WoW. I think it’s more realistic. By default, the violence level looks to be level 3 currently.

It’s funny how we sometimes only need a photo or video to remind us! It’s definitely something somewhat easy to forget (as many changes occur simultaneously in expansions where such features are removed).

I agree 100%. It would greatly increase confidence in the community’s perception of the Classic team’s ability to identify and fix bugs present. I’m almost always in favor of more communication and more detail. They surely have an internal bug list and change log stating which bugs have been fixed… :eyes:

I find it odd we have to manually type a console command to enable something that was originally in Classic?

This is so good. Thank you so much for compiling this information.

Any idea what the original violence level was in retail Vanilla? Or which of these settings corresponds to how it looked in retail Vanilla?

No problem! Happy to be of assistance. The default in vanilla looks to be 2.

I think the most significant numbers were 0 (no effects at all), 1 (green blood instead of red), 2 (red blood). Supposedly, possibly, 5 has more blood spatter, but 0-2 are the most impactful.
