[Video] MMR System Concerns

I mean oozo is actually a good player. There is some truth to what he’s saying. I just got out of the 12-1400 bracket where I went 16-7 to start the season and got thrown down into mmr hell where I can top damage/kills/caps etc….and still have a potato chasing people around huts.

This is a problem. The win/lose streak needs to not be part of the equation.

Also, since everyone starts at 1500 and the game seems to swing you hundreds of MMR based on single wins and losses, it’s very easy for a veteran player at 2300 to be placed with Joe blow at 1500 who’s only just learning pvp. This just feels bad and it really would be more fun for everyone if they toned down/reworked the MMR or just removed it all together.

Yes I agree. Tone down the mmr swings and let everyone see their personal mmr. It’s just crazy for someone to win a few matches and be placed in a lower mmr range than their cr. I get losing streaks etc… but when you’re in that high of a high risk low reward it becomes off putting. Maybe start mmr at 0 so you don’t feel so bad losing in said situation.

I thought it was first 20 ?

Stay safe during the storm bro!

Say it with me everyone. Placement matches DO NOT matter. ur previous 15-0 do not matter. U getting 6 points while in placements DOES NOT MATTER BECAUSE UR MMR is basically stagnant during it. Ur not at the high end or the low end. The range of games u can get can suck when u take a -20 at 2500 cause game put u at a 2k. U STOP QUEUING FOR moment and queue up later. if you keep queuing u opened up the range at what ur going to queue into and u can just tank deeper and deeper or just queue up later and 9 times out of 10 its fixed.

not true. my evoker has 13-8 record and is in 2.6k lobbies

You are 16-7. That is 23 games total. YOU ARE STILL IN PLACEMENT GAMES.

Still shouldn’t place a1400 mmr team vs a 1700 mmr team even if in placements.

People are putting way to much stock into placement games or matches played before placements are over. Try to win all of them. Doing duo by the % give you a much better chance to win. But who you are playing against before placements are over doesn’t matter as much as people seem to think. Especially if you wl/l ratio is already good.

I have 5 characters now. My main has already been to ratings I have never been before, but all my alts have bad w/l ratios minus my Holy Paladin. But even the characters with bad w/l ratios are still climbing. The highest MMR I have seen for any of my characters before 20ish games is like 1600.

I think this just boils down to us needing to actual hear from Blizzard if there are placement games, how many etc. Blitz needs a larger volume of placement games just because of the rng nature of the mode. 20/25 may be to many. Who knows. I just know as soon as I get out of the placement game area I am fine.

Yeah, I don’t get credit for a base cap when I am CCing an enemy player while someone else on my team caps the base.

Imagine looking at a scoreboard and thinking it tells the whole story of what happened in a BG. I can’t, not that dumb.

There are placement games, but what I am seeing currently happening did not happen in DF placement games. I never saw a game under 1400 in DF placement game. This mostly like has to do with a higher number of new players doing Blitz who are getting low MMR and someone has be pulled down to play with them to improve their queue times.

Breaking!

Random Team mode had random teams!

The highest rated lose the most from a loss!

The delta is too large in the random part of this. More consistent match making at the expense of queue times is needed. Also, less volatility for losing a match against a low MMR team. This isn’t arena or full team rated BGs. A single player has far less agency on the outcome than in those formats.

AMAZING VIDEO OP!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Its literally a system designed to keep some up, and others down, its busted.

consistent or banded?

Because consistently dealing from the top of the one big deck of cards is what seems to be happening now.

I am not sure it is behaving much differently than the RSS matchmaking is behaving, except I don’t know how happy people are to be the highest rated in a lobby. I always thought is was a good sign. Less so in RBGB tho

Splitting the player population into bands, or leagues, or different decks of cards, to continue the metaphor, seems to be what you are asking for.

It’s not what I want, but it is clear a lot of folks at least think they do.

It’s a lot easier to find 6 of anything that fits any group parameter than it is to get 16 of anything to fit any group parameter.

Even if the parameter is merely ‘exists’, it is objectively more difficult to collect 6 than 16.

So every new parameter added makes the whole process slower.

We can see exactly where that leads by looking at the long Q times for first games. I don’t think anyone want’s those kind of Q times all the time.

Where do you want the line to be? how many lines? What MMR is A, B ans C groups? Will there be overlap, or will you only play in the next group up after you get there? How many games to get relegated back?

Or you could fortify your resolve instead.
