Video games are not written in advance-Terran Gregory

For better or worse, these seems to be how Blizzard games/Warcraft will function with its narrative.

that makes sense…they implied this was the case when Sire Denathrius was introduced to the lore…i believe they end up keeping parts of the story/lore that the community show love for, regardless of what their original intentions were

FF 14 says hi.

I mean, if nothing else I guess it’s cute that he assumes there aren’t plenty of movies that are just written as they go…

Not all are the same.

It depends on culture too.

Like Japanese Devs do it way differently from Western Devs and focus far more on story and world building while Western Devs focus more on getting to the action ASAP. Western Devs also love ret conning more down the line.

Exqueeze me, but I’m gonna have to see your credentials, years of experience on record, and the list of games you’ve had a hand in developing before I can take your word over the blue check twitter man.

I can’t tell if your /s is for picking sides, or if it was meant to be “don’t trust blue check twitter man”. It’s the perfect /s comment.

But just in case, to the few people reading who don’t know, Terran Gregory is extremely good at what he does and has been in the industry for a very long time. He’s worth listening too.

My advice is to never trust anyone.
Especially if they glow.

Could have sworn that at some point Yoshi P said that the story for FF14 is written first and the game is developed around it.

Could be misremembering though.

Riiiight.

Guess you don’t play both Japanese and western games.

So let me help you.

SMT V. No Western Dev would have EVER made a game like that.

Persona 5. Same thing.

Fate: Grand Order. Same thing.

FF7(R). Same thing.

FF14. Same thing.

Tales of franchise. Same thing.

Need I go on?

People don’t like it but he’s right. Things need to be cut from development, sometimes very important things because they have a deadline to make a new expansion and they don’t have the luxury of taking extra time in any regard.

DRAENOR IS FREE!!!

Players: :eye: :lips: :eye:

all things considered pelagos becoming the arbiter takes the cake for me.

Right from WoD beta, I thought the threat of the burning legion coming through Draenor was a more serious threat to us than the iron horde. I just might have inserted a litttttle bit more connective tissue between fighting each other and fighting together.

(sort of a common theme with the more disliked expansion endings … I think there were really good ideas there, we just skipped a few chapters before the ending dropped on us)

This is understood. Especially since WoW’s PvP was, is and will always be an afterthought.

It is not necessary when the problem of Lore in 2 expansions blames Danuser.

Stupid Danuser.

Even scripted programs do that.

The problem is the stories are so shallow. it has nothing to do with being pre written it’s just… Old school good versus evil only recently have they put in mixes of Gray.

I mean that’s what got people into it but… Your audience as they get older want something more than that

Does it differently from Western & Nintendo Developers you mean as Miyamoto specifically stated that Gameplay is done first in Nintendo!

Square designed Final Fantasy with D&D Bosses so their Games are like Tabletop RPG Games.

Nintendo is like the Western Game Developers in how it does things. This may keep it from churning out new entries in Zelda every year as it cares more about Gameplay than expanding it’s Lore.

If all else fails, they can always fall back on retconning beloved characters and incidents of the past.

terran is a machinima creator that got lucky enough to be hired by blizz way back when, in the time when their door for hiring talent was still a low bar. he has no idea about any other video game outside of blizzard games. id like to point him to the mass effect trilogy, the witcher trilogy of games, and heck even his own game where blizz states that expansions are planned out three expansions in advance. now is no longer the case though.
