A shaman has been my main in Retail for over 15 years, and when I hit 60 in Vanilla, I was led to believe that a shaman could not heal a 5-man dungeon (e.g. Strat, Scholo, etc), unless their gear was so good that they could not possibly need anything from the dungeon they were running. The attitudes of those I played with changed quickly when the 2.0 prepatch dropped, and I gained access to Earth Shield, among other things.
Granted, I was really quite terrible 15 years ago (no addons, no keybindings, failure to understand the importance of totems, failure to spec properly, failure to do research, the list goes on), so it’s very possible that my much more skilled cousins were shielding me from conflict by relegating me to a support/DPS role, but I’d like to think that I’ve improved a bit in the last 15 years.
If I roll a shaman and spec full Resto (following guides on Icy Veins, etc), and it’s true that I’m no longer terrible, can I heal a 5-man dungeon from which I actually need gear without assistance from another healer?
If people find out you’re a resto shaman you’ll be having raiding guilds start whispering you around your mid-50s. I had gotten several poaching invites with raid spots before I had even hit 60 (even though I was also already in a raiding guild as well)
If u go resto, mana tide is great, i use r1 CH r4 and r6 HW and r4 LHW for dungeons, ull heal them very easy and the disease and poison cleanse totems not to mention WF and tremor are very useful, ull be picked over any other healer generally.
I heal 5 mans all the time and i’m deep feral. I do put on resto gear but its not challenging at all. I couldn’t imagine a shaman having an even easier time.
Unless your group is playing poorly, you can successfully heal a 5 man as an enhancement sham in agi gear, you will spend more time drinking, and you wont be able to heal through pulling 3 groups, but you will heal fine.
don’t even need healing gear, our healing wave is 3:1 healing/mana. We can just autoattack with windfury and heal when people get low. The only issue is groups with people under 3k hp, in which case we have no panic heals other than ns+heal(Which some weird shamans don’t take), and our fast heal is a little less efficient, so if they take aggro, they die(as they deserve, screw mage tanks, wanna tank as a mage, stack stamina).
The biggest problem with healing in our meta is that everybody is glass, and healing people with under 4000 health is incredibly inefficient, and leaves no room to do anything but spam heal and pray they don’t get oneshot. There’s people with under 3000 hp at 60, it’s disgusting.
There’s a lot of dead to minor talents for resto in BWL, they hold more value in AQ. If you register as enhance in logs though, you’re healing is compared to other enhance, not resto players.
Honestly that’s pretty bad. You should be getting all 100’s. Because the number of people healing as deep enhancement in raids is very tiny. It was probably you and like 10 other people.
