Very Weird Bot Activity

Just about every time I go to Outland, Hellfire Peninsula, I see dozens of Gnome Death Knights all running the same route, riding their DK mounts. There are usually 20-30 of them running a route between the destroyed cannons close to the Path of Glory. Just now I saw a few, not the dozens, running a strange route around the Ruins of Sha’naar.

Does anyone know what these bots are doing?

If they are bots, probably farming for gold, but I don’t know how much gold potential there is in the area. You would have to run ahead and see. I think that area is both higher density and higher spawn rates, but I’m not sure.

It could be a multi boxer simply picking the best route to level also. Higher spawns, would be faster levelling. That doesn’t necessarily mean bot either, just someone who has a best route trying to tim respawns.

When in doubt, use the click to report system, a true botter would probably think it’s not really a high traffic area, so might not be noticed.

So, Aside the obvious ask if they’re a bot type deal. How would you propose it be handled?

nothing we can do, its not game breaking enough to ruin the game from blizz’s perspective.

and blizz benefits from the income.

in classic its 100x worse, but still somehow not enough for blizz to assign a human to rooting out the problem, its all on an automated system.

I miss the actual classic (when it was retail). Sure there were bots, but they actually took care of them. Lately it seems it’s been such a massive issue, and little to nothing is being done. Multi-boxers are one thing. Blizz’s stance on that is pretty clear, but actual bots on the other hand.

I don’t see how this can be multiboxers because there are so many of them at the same time. I can see someone with 6 accounts but this is like 20-30 and they do look automated in the patterns they run. After seeing the replies, I bet it’s gold farming. The orcs in that area spawn fairly quick and every time one of the DK’s tags one, they stop, kill, and loot it.

If they are running seemingly independent of one another, then it is probably a leveling bot. If they are all clumped up doing the same actions all at the same time, then it is a probably a multiboxer either gold farming or transmog farming, or possibly rep grinding for honor hold or something…

If they are botting, then by all means, report them.

the two arent mutually exclusive

which means its possible to have multiboxing bots running the same script

and/or you have a popular script that is sold or somehow obtained by people that run a bot program with the same script that utilizes the same code which puts them on identical pathing and actions

While technically not mutually exclusive, there is absolutely no reason for a bot user to multibox. It would be counterproductive for a bot user to rely on a single session to control all the other sessions. Bot users would have the bot software control each session independently so that if the “main” session fails / dies / crashes / whatever… the others aren’t affected.

Too many people try to lump botting in with boxing in order to justify saying that boxing is against the rules.

You should see the bot activity right outside Iron Docks, holy heck.

Its actually insane watching dozens of druids walk the EXACT same routes for weeks on end. I’m not saying similar routes, I’m saying exact. There are very clearly three different routines that are being used, and it’ll take about two minutes of watching them to see the patterns.

How this is something that is undetectable by Blizzard just blows my mind.

I left the UI off so none of the names would show, but it wouldn’t matter, they are all gibberish anyway, to no ones surprise. Also, its difficult to report them, because A) there are so many, and B) they aren’t out in the world for very long so you can only get a very small percentage of them.

This video was taken a few weeks ago, and they’re still there, just botting away by the hundreds, completely undisturbed by Blizz.

That is absolutely botting… Might be easier to do a “/who [instance name] druid” and see if you can recognize the bots in there. Report them that way.

Its literally the craziest most blatant botting I’ve ever seen. There are moments where you think, okay, its slowing down, that’s all for now, and then another twenty druids zone out.

It just goes on and on and on. Happens on every server I’ve checked. I’m guessing there are likely thousands of them going at any given time. Whatever is going on here, its clearly a problem that is impossible to solve.

Druids have a spell from legion to teleport to the dreamgrove and if you use the spell from inside the dreamgrove it will teleport you back.

However if you cast it from inside an instance it will put you at the start of the instance when you teleport back. It’s a quick way to reset instead of running back out.

If you go to the Dreamgrove and just watch, there are tons of druids with complete gibberish names teleporting in and out nonstop.

I’ve heard of multiboxers who put each of their characters inside its own instance, so when they run it on 1 char, they actually clear it on 10 or however many characters they are multiboxing.

I’ve seen HFP bots similar to those you speak of. In my case, they were all male troll death knights.

They’re unmistakably bots. All from different realms with no naming scheme, tracing a single path and killing every mob they come across forever. If you pull away the mob they’re fighting, they’ll follow you off the edge of the zone into the abyss without a second thought.

I report them when I see them but with how little traffic Outland gets these days, tons of these things must be slipping through the cracks.

I’d like to see someone do that lol. It wouldn’t be easy, all your characters won’t be perfectly in sync so turning a corner on one character could mean getting stuck on that corner on 2 of them so you’d have to switch to those two and move them but then they’ll forever be out of sync. Anyone lags or gets caught or anything and it becomes a mess quickly.
