Please help! Seems especially bad on HC servers, but retail’s been quite poor too. I’ve done a trace route, which follows:

The high latency is happening on Telstra nodes, so you’d want to alert them about the issue.
There’s normally about a 150ms jump when you cross the Pacific Ocean from Australia to the US, so a 180ms increase isn’t unreasonable. Perhaps a little high but not massively so.
What comes across as odd is the round trip via Miami, or at least Florida, after leaving Telstra’s US servers. Crossing the whole country first before circling back hardly seems ideal.
AFL/NRL grand finals, NSW long weekend and NSW school holidays are probably adding to the strain on Aussie internet in the last couple of days. I especially notice school holidays always make wow latency higher in our area.
There is a quick jump from Miami, so a lot of things will route through there.
For years and years joining a US party was only a little bit laggy, like around 130ms, but the past month they’ve been ridiculous, anywhere from 300 to 800ms. I am seeing this on week days, weekends, mornings, afternoons, nights, it doesn’t seem to have a ‘peak time’ window. Even back in Vanilla when we didn’t have any Aussie servers at all the dungeons were not this bad.
And it fluctuates. I could be on world 800ms but during the dungeon it would be perfect one second then painful the next. Something has definitely changed recently.
Honest question, how would you alert them? Their standard customer service is terrible and don’t even understand how their own modems work.
With Telstra as well and getting 1000ms+ dungeons lol.

Sadly, all you can do as the customer is notify them. Sometimes escalating your call with a higher tier of tech support will help.
Preaching to the choir, chief. I was there back in the 300ms+ era, and still run about 180ms to my home realm to this day. Many of my characters pre-date the existence of Oceanic realms at all, much less when hardware actually made it to Australia.
What I can tell you is that this seems to be a Telstra thing, but I’m not sure it’s their fault. Optus routing goes through Twelve99 once it hits the US for an extra 50ms before reaching the same server as you in hop 15, instead of handing off to those Seabone servers for the Miami tour. So either Telstra or Seabone could be causing issues. 3 points of data at each step just isn’t enough to tell.
I just want to chime in and say I just ran a dungeon with Ragnaros players etc, and I had a consistent 400ms to 500ms from Australia. Input lag was as high at 1k at times.
I’m also on Telstra internet.

Same issue here except it’s only happening in certain zones.
Levelling an alt in Elwynn Forrest and Darkshore is absolutely fine but as soon as I leave those starting zones, the MS makes the game almost unplayable.
Same problem on the EU servers for a lot of people. I live in Japan but it was always perfectly stable before that last maintenance.

Same issue here, except I am in Canada - Southern Ontario. It’s been on-going for a week or so now inside of instances. I did briefly notice it out in the world maybe about… 3 weeks ago now? Haven’t noticed that since, but it’s a real PITA trying to do dungeons or anything to do with an instanced environment, including garrisons, Torghast, etc.
My point is that we aren’t suffering from 180ms, we are suffering from 300 to 400 to 800ms and it keeps going up as you attempt to complete the dungeon. It has gotten so bad that non-OCE servers are unplayable if you want to time a high key.

Just doing TW dungeons, had 1 US host where my Home MS was 20, but my World shot up to 5100.
Had issues on Hardcore Classic too.

Harass them. I had to spend countless hours just to find someone that could talk off script and have a proper conversation.
It’s frustrating and a massive waste of time, but harassing them is the only way to get through their
customer support and find a real person.

From Malaysia & facing the same problem, after last maintenance my classic era experience has been horrid. Disconnects whilst in flight, disconnects in raids, animation freeze whilst still being able to type, loot lag (which usually leads to d/c either way). Everything else seems fine, connection is smooth on other games & whilst streaming video/audio.

I was in Ruby Life Pools this morning doing the M0 runs, when my latency suddenly shot up to 2037ms. I couldn’t cast any spells, but everything around me was still running as normal with party chat and DBM calls still happening and everything. /reload actually fixed the issue, even though my latency reading was still the same.
So now I’m wondering if there’s something else going on, maybe latency isn’t the problem but the software thinks it’s latency? (I have no clue about this stuff so I know I could be way off base here.)
I’m glad I already got all my portals on my 2 main characters, because there is no way I could do +20’s at all now considering how few OCE groups run those keys when I’m online. Been mucking around with alts and even in a BFA levelling dungeon the world ms sits around 300-400.
