Vengeance weapons?

For my tanking loadout, should I pick the weapons that increase my Stamina the most (for Twilight Devastation procs) or the ones that offer more DPS?

I have a 430 Diver’s Folly, but some ugly 460 glaive dropped from Heroic Darkshore.

Stamina and weapon DPS are both linked directly to itemlevel, so with a few exceptions for some of the special snowflake weapons out there (like Diver’s Folly and Crawg Tusks), the two are equivalent. For those special weapons, whether you use them or not depends largely on whether you feel as if you have sufficient durability without the additional stamina of the higher itemlevel one.

It also depends somewhat on the relative DPS difference. Tank DPS is important in raids, but it’s still small chunk of the overall raid’s damage output, and unless you’re pushing mythic progression, is unlikely to be the make-or-break for encounters (and even if it is, your group would almost certainly gain more from DPS peeps optimizing a bit better, handling mechanics better, and/or taking less damage so healers can pump more mad deeps).

That said, a 430 1h weapon has 449 stamina on it, while a 460 has 617. That’s 168 stamina, or ~3400 HP before spec bonuses (~5500 for VDH, if I’m remembering our spec bonus correctly, I don’t have time to log in atm). That’s reasonable, but it’s only about 30% of the benefit you get from a Greater Flask of the Vast Horizons (if you’re using a stam flask, though it’s good perspective regardless). Also keep in mind that very little of our self-healing scales from %HP (most of it is AP, itemlevel, neck level, or damage taken, though the higher itemlevel weapon will also include a bump to AP), so bumping max HP mostly just increases your burst-death threshold.

If we’re talking about a sub-1% DPS gain, I wouldn’t bother. If it’s more than that, then it really is a judgement call on your part.

Thanks for the info!

I suppose I can always sim it in Havoc to see which one comes ahead. But, I’m leaning towards iLvl increases across the board, just for the sake of higher HP.

EDIT: I managed to sim them, and there is a 0.2% DPS difference between the two.

Diver’s Folly proc + Twilight Devastation proc on Meta = big deeps and that’s all I need to know until I get a Mythic weapon to take its place or anything with some big D corruption. I only play Vengenace on M+, so I’m not too versed on how we’re doing in raids as tanks.

I just started actually taking Vengeance seriously in M+ and I’m enjoying it very much so far since i only played Havoc for everything before. I was even using a 410 blue weapon with Echoing Void before nerfs and I was having absolutely no trouble tanking +16s last week or this week even, granted I switched to using double Diver’s Folly yesterday, although I have a 450 and 445.

You should really try and farm for those 445 follies as it’s very, very, very easy to kill Behemoth even in pugs right now. Corruption just makes everyone roflstomp everything in Eternal Palace so you should be done in no time.
