Vengeance Fracture/Shear in Shadowlands

I’d really like it if Blizzard brought back Fracture as a Pain(Fury) SPENDER instead of a generator that replaces Shear.

I loved Shear and Fracture in Legion because they synergized so well and created a circular rotation where you built up Pain with Shear, then dumped Pain via Fracture to create Soul Shards, then spent the Shards on Spirit Bomb. The BFA (and Shadowlands) Fracture just feels so much worse to me because it has a limited use/recharge and is a generator that replaces Shear entirely :frowning:

TLDR I still really really really miss the Legion Vengeance DH design. Best Class in the history of WoW, imo.

Also yeah, just make Spirit Bomb baseline already please

So, this is one of really only two viable ways to solve our resource contention issue. We got overlapping, redundant, competitive resources right now (Fury and Soul Fragments). They either need to be made cooperative, by having one fuel the other, or one of them needs to be removed as a resource (and the logical one to remove is soul fragments. Mind you, I’m not saying remove them as a mechanic, just as something we can intentionally manage via reliable generation).

Unfortunately, this topic has been beaten to a pulp, and Blizzard just doesn’t seem to care. So I suspect SL will just BfA all over again, except without VoP + Twilight Devastation to prop us up. If Blizzard does make any changes, they’ll almost certainly be naive attempts to fix the wrong issue based on a complete misunderstanding or lack of knowledge of the class. That’s pretty much Blizzard’s MO these days, unfortunately.

I like Fracture, but I want Shear to die in a fire, shot, minced and then shot some more. I hate Shear spam wish a passion, as you can probably tell.

I really like Fracture and wanted it to be baseline, but Soul Cleave needs to be changed too. Soul Cleave is such a feelsbad button that it’s ridiculous that it’s our spender, which by logic SHOULD be our most effective button to press outside of our AM and big cooldowns.

Nailed it.

I do think that baseline Shear could receive the short cooldown and mechanics of live’s Fracture, while freeing up the talents design for the return of it’s Legion iteration as an option.

The repeated generator spam for both Havoc and Vengeance is just horrible.

Definitely needs something.
I do think that Legion Artifact traits helped in it’s value. Cleave should at least act like a spender.

I definitely hate Shear in the current meta but when you had both Fracture and Shear together it was really fun.

I think the most telling evidence of how undertuned Soul Cleave is right is that it deals less damage than Fracture. Soul Cleave is 58.5% AP, while Fracture is 80%. And they wonder why we spec into Spirit Bomb (or have to get carried by TD)…

Yeah, I like the burst healing of soul cleave but the damage is so abysmal :frowning:

It’s not even that good of burst healing. In a non-Fracture build, you could use that GCD on Shear, in which case you generate and consume a soul (because you’re capped), or you could use it on Soul Cleave, in which case you consume 2 souls, but then spend the next 2 GCDs re-capping on souls and thus not soul healing.

So basically, you get 1 extra soul consumed on that GCD at the cost of zero soul healing for the next two. Pretty poor trade, imo. The only time that really makes sense is if you double-tap Soul Cleave right after a huge hit of damage.
