Vengeance demon hunter Nerf?

blizzard has announced upcoming Tank tuning for the next weekly reset. This includes a 10% overall damage reduction for tanks and a fix for the Vengeance Demon Hunter magic damage bug but with some compensation.

I haven’t worked out all the math yet, but veng will still be one of the best magic tanks. Pally may beat us on average magic DR now with holy shield, along with the 10% aura all other tanks are getting. If I was calculating things correctly, my ilvl 200 pally was getting about 23% average magic DR from blocks

Veng may feel indirectly nerfed as the other tanks will feel stronger, but you should still be able to complete the content you have already been doing

  • [With regional restarts] Fixed an issue where both the Havoc and Vengeance versions of Demonic Wards were being applied to Vengeance Demon Hunters.

  • [With regional restarts] Fixed an issue where the Havoc version of Shattered Souls was being applied to Vengeance Demon Hunters.

  • [With regional restarts] Demonic Wards (Rank 1) damage reduction increased to 10% (was 5%).

They are effectively nerfing the self healing as well (at least in keys). VDH was getting the benefit of Havoc’s shattered souls in addition to its own. So killing an enemy was generating a soul that healed much more than it should.

Unless the meta shifts away from the kite meta, the DH will still be the top M+ tank for M+ due to the caster meta (5% Magic Dmg debuff), the massive AoE burst DPS and mobility. They still remain one of the best at magic dmg mitigation (Prot Pal maybe slightly better vs magic now?).

The Stonk value of Bears, Monks and Warriors all just went way up for M+ however.

All this really does is bring the tank classes closer together for both Mythic raiding progression and Mythic +

This class is becoming utter garbage in almost every way. Lets be real. Vengeance isn’t even all that great to begin with. as stated above, Kiting is the only saving virtue. If kiting no longer stays a thing, Vengeance has no purpose in this game.

Honestly vengeance plays like a really cool watered down DPS to begin with. If you ask me, They should just convert it to dps. Keep its skill set and just reduce healing and damage reduction and up the damage of everything. But then again if that happened, Havoc would not exist in game anymore as no one would play it.

I was not around for the release of DH in legion so I can not say what busted world you guys lived in where DH was so overpowered that years later they are still taking such a large axe to it but to be honest this is disappointing in almost every way.

What I would love is a better mastery and there were so many things we could have taken from the artifact for that.

I know alot of people have said they want the fire damage leech mechanic back as the mastery, but I don’t see that scaling well in high damage scenarios as our damage doesn’t Increase when we take more damage. Leech as a mastery is either tuned to be completely broken in easier content, or useless in hard content. Other tank masteries give DR, or at least scale with dtps (blood shield)

Personally, I want our mastery to be the painbringer trait giving damage reduction after consuming a soul stacking 5 times. This would also help smooth our damage intake more. It kind of acts like bdks blood shield to smooth our damage intake (even though blood shield sucks right now)

I read that a bit differently, the first issue with demonic wards it says both the havoc and the vengeance versions were being applied to vengeance DH. The next issue just says havoc version was being applied to vengeance, they didn’t word it the same way, that both were being applied so I read that as we have been getting the havoc version instead of the vengeance? Maybe i’m wrong, hope i’m not.

In regards to the demon wards issue, what I don’t get is a bug was causing us to get 10% more magic damage reduction…I get it, fix the bug…and bonus, they gave us 5% baseline reduction to compensate for the loss…great, sounds reasonable…but then they give every other tank spec a flat 10% all damage reduction. So why do we get 5 and everything else 10? I would understand for fairness sake giving all the other tanks the same 5% increase we got but the 10% is what gets me.

i did a +14 the paladin who tanked ended up top dps, top healer, and he was THE TANK!!!

DH is still meta for pve and pvp tanking. It was only a small nerf to healing. You were buffed in dmg reduction. Its 10% to all damage, not just physical.

So then all tank specs have even -dmg% modifiers now. Why do you deserve a -15%magic reduction and nobody else?

You have it backwards. DH will take 15% more magic damage after patch and 5% less physical damage. While all other tanks will take 10% less damage all around

So you still have 5% more passive damage mitigation than other tank specs. I dont see how that is a problem. Veng has strong health pool and kite, so you are still #1 tank.

Same with pvp, you are the only tank in rbgs.

This mostly tells me how bad those DPS and the healer are.

all were around ilevel 215 and up, paladins are really powerful. do arenas vs one paladin tank will kill you.

That Fel Fortification legendary I made is looking better and better now lol (though I still recommend Darkglare for the Meta uptime). One thing I will say to any druids reading this, I will vote kick you so fast if I see ANY trees out ever. Having mobs in Mythic+ spin like tops with threat and then end up behind you is a death sentence for DH after this
