Vengeance Demon Hunter is a Glass Cannon

Having a tank nerf in season one of a new expansion is expected. Having that nerf include a 50% reduction in haste, crit, and for all practical purposes, crowd control, for a class that requires those attributes in order to be viable, is ridiculous. DH Tank a glass cannon and the gunpowder is wet.

Vengeance Demon Hunter used to have a choice between offensive and defensive builds and both were viable, and both required haste, crit and crowd control. With those stats now reduced by half there is only one DH build and compared to all other tanks in the game, their damage taken makes Demon Hunter practically non-viable in Mythic+.

Yes, I know. Everyone got the nerf, but Prot Warrior, Guardian Druid, and Prot Pally, for example, don’t seem to be troubled by it as much as DH, and given how long it took Blizzard to make DH consistently competitive, this is why people are picking other toons or just simply leaving the game.

You can’t self-sustain when you’re dead, and if you actually pug a few dungeons and your healer is suspect, that will be the case frequently. We don’t want to wait until season 3 for you to get this right.

there was never a defensive build, it was just a build with cheat death build that made you lose 30% defense and offense for a cheat death.

i highly suggest you link a long in the felhammer discord for further help. because vdh is one of the tankiest specs in the game, you just have to play it well

There’s 6 VDH in the top 20 on raider io. If what you’re saying is true, that would be 6 too many.

What’s notably missing is Prot Pally.

Would appear this isn’t accurate either.

Sounds like your stacking defensives vs weaving them…Im

i’ll stop you right there

VDH can be squish. Spikes, SoF for parry chance, leap in and land with targets in front, immo, then fel dev normally how I start most packs. Weave defensives and the gun powder is most definitely not “wet” DH absolutely blast.

The fact pal has to stand in consecration for mastery to work is asinine.

With the Sanctuary talent you can maintain 100% uptime on it even on the move.

I get it with Prot Pally. High skill cap, changes to the build that require a different play style. Regarding DH, what I am saying is, outside of the top twenty, who with all due respect don’t pug, and as evidenced by the following data, it would appear the WOW community agrees with me on DH.

Here is the change in ranked players from DF S4 to WWI S1 as of today. Keep in mind this is only week 3.

Class Change in M+ population between DF S4 to today.
Warrior +60%
Druid +11%
monk -12%
DK -17%
Pally -40%
DH -46%

I dont play DH vengence, i tried back in Legion/BFA and didnt find it fun : /.
And yes, we need more balance on those tanks. It seems that everyone rerolled warrior this season.

This could also be related to FOTM re-rollers that went fury as well this xpac cause havoc play style feels bad, and some of them bleeding over into tank specs because of demand and faster key invites

Glass? Yes. Cannon? No.

Vengeance is more like a glass pop-gun.

Sounds like someone needs to brush up on DH. They are squish if you don’t know what you’re doing and they absolutely blast damage if you know what you’re doing.

Glad it’s not just me. I feel like paper. Might have to stack vers like a madman

verse wont help you feel more bulky, your doing something rotationally wrong if you feel more squishy than usual. vdh is a leech tank you have to heal up the damage take with your souls while keeping up your mitigations

I didn’t write this post for the WOW community as much as for Blizzard. I don’t need to drop a log into the Felhammer discord. You can go watch one of the videos my VHD is featured in if you want to see how I play.

I wrote this post because, after playing the game for more than 16 years, including playing every class and spec in the game, having played VDH since closed beta in Legion, and having rank one Mythic+ toons in my realm or battlegroup, I’m tired of watching Blizzard tweak and tune so much that people stop playing the game.

In RotLK, for example, there were 15 million active WOW accounts. How many are there today? The only thing Blizzard seems to do well is chase people away from the game, largely because of stupid and sometimes nonsensical meddling.

Take Disc Priest or Resto Druid after RotLK. Blizzard’s “Mana Management” initiative caused those healers to run out of mana by the time the first paw was down on Deathwing, leaving them to watch while a single Resto Shaman healed the rest of the dungeon by themselves in a heroic raid. With that example in mind, the changes they made to VDH in this expansion, just like the myriad of changes they’ve made to so many other toons over time, is BS.

I’m tired of it. I pay a lot of money to play this game and I expect to have fun, and after 16 years of meddling, watching Blizzard turn VDH into a mediocre DPS masquerading as a tank, pisses me off.

I mean if you’re this crazy good, usually changes like you’re complaining about don’t effect you. The .1% roll with the punches. Its the rest of us that feel it more.

I switched to BRM for this tier from my veng but I’m gearing that too up too. I can say I definitely feel squishier but oh my, the dps when I go meta is insane. It strictly promotes huge pulls and then some kiting.

Anyways, go bear this tier. You play them all.

VDH is completing the same keys as the current “best” tanks. In short, you aren’t as good as you claim to be.

just sounds like your in denial about your actual skill level as vdh tbh. If you’re that good then posting a log wouldn’t be an issue. Or would you rather I grab a log from your videos

You need haste and crit more than vers. VDH heals themselves and debuffs mobs to reduce damage.
