So not gonna lie i have 1000’s of keys. I am really really Angry with blizzard.
I understand their was a shortage of tanks so they made druids and pali’s require no skill to play. Fine i get it. But i am SICK and TIRED of useless players being like Look how good I am.
A level 10 paladin can be afk and take less damage then a fully stacked vengeance dh. This is PATHETIC blizzard. PATHETIC.
I understand EVERY aspect of Vengeance dh. do not respond with Get gud. There is no GOOD in Plate wearers right now. the SIMPLY TAKE NO DAMAGE. Change all Plate wearers to 26% damage reduction instead of 50%+ and remove their ability to maintain reduction constantly. Let them GET ONE SHOT.
CHANGE VENGEANCE DH base armor to 40% PERIOD. It is IMPOSSIBLE to maintain defensives in prolonged fights. I am talking M+ keys PERIOD. Dh are getting TRUCKED for 100k hits when they have 110-120k hps. If you get hit even for a milisecond outside your meta or spikes your DEAD. Every other class has no concept of how hard it is to play a tank. I am being dead HONEST. THEY HAVE NO CLUE BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO GET HIT HARD.
FIX this FIX this Fix this. Go play the class for once.
Id love to get a blizzard employee in an 18+ key right now. Have em tank on a pali dk druid. Then measure the healing and damage taken and put the same heaing on them on a DH. Fortified bolster weak. You die. YOU LOSE YOUR JOB AND YOU DESERVE TO LOSE IT.

I will admit that juggling defensives as a VDH gets old. I’ll also say that “RUN AWAY!” seems to be one of them since even perfect play results in defensive gaps if the RNG gods don’t smile upon you.

Ya, I don’t understand how this class actually works as a tank. It’s nothing like tanking on my warrior long ago.
To me the tanking in this game works such that you need to have more HP than the monsters can take out in one hit, then you stack on armor to reduce that further, parry, dodge, shield block to negate hits on top but the most important thing is HP and armor.
Where VDH it seems like we just barely have the health to take big hits, armor is leather so bad, and defensive skills need me to press a button otherwise they don’t exist? So at most 12 seconds of 20 we can take a hit, and the other 8 seconds what? As far as I could tell from the few times I tried tanking, it’s jump and run away? What?

Pretty new DH here - never really pushed passed a 15 in my WoW career…
Just so we are the same page, what level keystone are you talking about? Can you give a particular pull as an example?
In an 18 fortified(this week) at 270ilvl(22%vers) I can pop into like ~6-7 mobs(like first DoS pull) with spikes/meta but need to pop two fully stacked spirit bombs back to back along with getting healed not to die… I then test my healer while I slowly build up more spirit bombs after the initial pull but then need to run away if/when I lose meta.
Is this a “poor” experience? I mean, it feels a little sketch to me as a new player(at this keystone range). Are you saying other tanks have an easier experience with a similar ilvl?
Quick add as well, I think +18 is my max atm. Not sure if I could survive long enough after my back to back spirit bombs to build more aggro on anything higher.
Yes this is the case for me. I did the big pull at the start of spires up to the Goliath on a 15 for DH. Only reason I lived was the 2pc giving me a large amount of souls. I did the same pull on a 16 on my pally and I felt much studier.
Paladin has about 4-5 more ilvl, but this DH was my main last patch and has the gear/trinkets for tanking. The paladins tankiness feels right and DH feels way too squishy
I should also add I have way more experience tanking on DH than pally, yet my pally feels stronger
Pally is a much better tank. Much.
Until it’s time to move the boss.
ngl i hate healing demon hunters. worst tank to heal. my friend came back to the game recently and decided he wanted to play vengeance and i begged him not to. how the mighty have fallen

out of the top 20 timed keys 16 of them had a dh tank tho so idk
Just started tanking and immediately noticed this. Sometimes you just have no CD and better hope you have the right trinkets. Although, I like the idea of having to jump tf away during no CD periods… as much as everyone else hates it.
Thick Skin needs to be brought up from 100% to 200%. I have about 1614 armor and I’m 100% certain every other tank at the same item level as me, 271, would have substantially more. Even at 200% armor it would only be 2421 armor, still less than plate wearers.
I’ve been playing with infernal armor in keys this week to bring it to 1937 since I can have near 100% uptime on immolation aura and the armor is still pretty laughable.
4842**
The big thing about DH’s are they’re a bit spiky like DK’s, but like DK’s, they heal themselves a lot through their damage, which is why you don’t see the 200% increase in armor like you’re asking.
My DH has 807 armor baseline as havoc. Thick skin in vengeance makes it increased by 100% or doubled. So “being increased by 200%” more of 807 would be tripled at 2421.

So - I WISH I had the ability to compare like you. My prot paladin is only ilvl 240 - so there’s way too much of a gap unfortunately… No tier either.
I did do my first +20(easiest one NW…) over the weekend on the DH and noted that I had to rotate defensives(moreso only stay in melee if I have meta up or have a consistent source of souls for SpB spam(decree)) perfectly. Spikes alone on a pull without Meta or SpB spam would not allow me to survive. If I had neither of those options I would need to run away… Or get 1-shot, like what actually happened!
So, yeah, the feel of this tanking method feels conditionally sturdy at best! I’m curious if prot paladins feel just as tanky or moreso compared to our tankiest(meta/spb).
ALso, humbly admit that I don’t have good tank trinkets(no Scale or that one from Streets)… nor do I have 4pc. Things might feel less like I need to perform “perfectly” in order to complete a +20 if my gear improves with better trinks/tier but that won’t necessarily improve our relative quality of life to a paladin if they can literally just stand their while being able to rely on their class tankiness only(which apparently is ez to execute).
I might add that Protection paladins have 6000 armor at all times once they have things going. In Meta I only have 4842 armor.
Paladins also have self healing so don’t give a response that paladins dont self heal. Even brewmasters can self heal.
VENGEANCE NEEDS A BASELINE ARMOR BUFF.

Paladins wear plate gear, dh wear leather. Low Armor value fits the fantasy of the class.
Armor buff is not the answer, fixing mitigation games is
armor is mitigation lmao. bears have insane armor. can get up to 8k
Then how would you buff mitigation to make them stronger against physical damage without making them too strong against magical damage. You could have a physical only DR, but that’s called armor
Yeah I love it when people who know nothing about tanking comment about how to fix it, like the warrior above.
