I’ve been playing this game since the second day it came out. I have no idea why its so hard come up with a system that gates gear progress but also allows people to work toward something. Going a month or longer for an upgrade is absolutely ridiculous for the amount of time people put into this game. I also understand this is a game and blizzard has to create the grind. So here’s the idea.
PvE (a lot like titan but better)
You get an item and you don’t like it you disenchant that item you get X amount of tokens based on the item level of that item. You then go to a vendor and for X amount of tokens you can buy items off bosses you’ve killed at the level you’ve killed them at (priced appropriately for the item level and grind needed to reasonably achieve them). If you haven’t kill mythic raid bosses then you have no access to mythic loot, same for heroic, etc. When a new difficulty opens blizzard can keep the cost higher so that people can’t farm heroic for weeks on end and then buy multiple mythic pieces as they down bosses. Through patches you can lower the cost as the raid gets older. This will keep people active in LFG, Normal, Heroic, and when it opens Mythic throughout the patch that content is relevant. When the next raid tier opens guess what? New tokens. No need to devalue on gear or old tokens. People can still grind them out, in fact you could lower the cost of said items which would also help in a catch up system.
PvP
Even easier. Same thing as above. You can only buy gear up to the rating you are either at or achieved during that season (whichever they feel is appropriate)
I’ve seen people get blessed by the RNG gods and get six insane upgrades in two weeks. Then there are people like me that get little to nothing (majority of all pieces that drop for me are mastery main stat, which is my worst stat).
Not reading all of that but I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess you got a crap item from your weekly chest…but after finally getting off my keister and getting conflict and strife I must say gearing for pvp royally sucks…
I’ve got crap minus literally 1-2 pieces for 15 weeks. Not just this week. And that’s doing all three chest each week. Three months for two upgrades? This system isn’t okay. This terrible.
I’ve had one upgrade from pvp chest, one upgrade from mythic + chest, and zero upgrades from vision chest.
Gearing through PvP is abysmal.
So basically you are talking about something like the Titan residuum system but for all slots? I thought that worked well when it was first introduced, but 8.3 gives too little residuum for 460 gear.
The existing Conquest system is better. Most PVP people don’t do rated, and rating is not something you progress in - for each person that goes up, another is going down, which is not progression - so basing anything off of rating is a bad idea.
I disagree on your rating point for PvP. That’s like saying people who do LFG should have the same access to gear as mythic raiders. That’s not a good model for any game. I’m at the duelist range and its lackluster even here due to RNG. I’ve gotten 470 and 475 gear that gets beat by 455 and 460 gear. Like I said you can make it based off the highest rating achieved, but it should be based off skill, no matter what people should not feel like everything they do is a waste of time. That’s the exact reason why people quit this game and have been for years now. They put all this time and effort into a RNG system that has no options for reward.
As for PVE, yes a lot like Titan Residuum, the only difference is it should be gated on what you’ve already beat. So raid bosses and M+ that have been completed would be on a list of gear you could purchase. If you haven’t completed a boss you can’t get loot from that dungeon or from that raid boss. Gating stuff is easy, figure out the max amount of tokens that can be earned and multiply it by the weeks you want it to take for people to gear.
Basing the PVP gear off Arena rating is worse than saying mythic raids should drop gear ilvl based on the highest Mythic+ you completed. It emphasizes a tiny, artificial, extremely imbalanced niche of PVP.
It would make more sense to base it off of kill to death ratio in world PVP, or win/loss ratio in random battlegrounds, though those would also have problems.
That’s the thing, the only metric you could base it on is rating…
People get carried in mythics just like people get carried in PvP…
Wouldn’t it be easier to go back to the token system that was in the TBC / WOTLK?
The second raid opens and all the bosses in all the dungeons on heroic difficulty drop a token.
In one week you can buy one of the most expensive items or two of the cheapest.
The ilvl of these items is somewhere between Hero and Mythic from the previous patch.
And to get gear equivalent to the current raid then professions can be used.
The different reputations added to the patch sell different recipes. All with different levels of reputation.
The cheapest items (in terms of materials) can be traded and the most expensive are soulbound.
Most importantly, you do not need exclusive raid materials and the different reputations are NOT linked in any way to the raid.
This way, even those who only do PvP doing one hour of WQ can get the recipes.
If I’m being honest I would say catering for casuals will kill this game. I’m saying this as pretty much a causal. There has to be a grind and there has to be a gate for gear. Making gear obtainable with no grind will lead a lot of people to other games.
I understand that perfectly.
But you can’t have everyone happy.
Those who only do PvE don’t want to know anything about PvP.
The opposite is also true.
And if you put a recipe behind a dungeon or raid, people will cry without end.
ALWAYS, from Vanilla, there were professions with missions in dungeons or raids.
An example is Enchanting and the mission (I think) that made you go to Uldaman.
Alchemy and his journey through various dungeons on TBC.
And what happened in Legion? People forgot that professions had missions?
I lost count of how many people I saw crying or complaining about an alchemy mission that made you go to Vault of the Warden.
That dungeons (in hero) are very difficult. That there is no point in going to a dungeon.
Etc etc
What can we do ?
No missions but farm dungeons and raids?
Learn everything in the trainer but it takes an absurd amount of materials?
I don’t have the data to say which is the lesser of two evils. Pleasing the masses is their best option to maintain subs. What I do know is everyone hates pure RNG. Everyone hates waiting for months at a time for upgrades. Everyone hates getting the same slot week after week. I’d been be okay with RNG on slot but picking what secondary when you open the chest, kinda like how conquest cap works right now would be perfect for M+ chest and PvP chest.
I just want to pvp witout being uttetly destroyed in a regular bg
