When trying to purchase gear from vendors, the tooltip level requirements state your current level and appear accessible to wear. Although, when purchased and try to equip, you receive an error message stating “You need to be XX level to use this”.
This can be confusing to players when trying to gear a lower level character.
I assume the recent grand scaling has supersized the tooltip readout causing this error.
Same issue with my level 20 ch. Tons of items that show the wrong tooltip, and are available for purchase (not red) that even when purchased, in the inventory, still showing the wrong tootips.
I’ve noticed a lot of weird scaling like this too. For example, I purchased some rings from the jewelry vendor in old Dalaran that were huge upgrades for a low level, but when I went to equip them, I didn’t meet the level requirement despite the tooltip saying otherwise. Thankfully they can be refunded in that case but may not always be possible.
When i opened a ticket about an item I purchased not functioning like it should, the GM stated to “hold on to it” and was quite an upgrade when i reach the level that was not listed on the item. the response was well after the 2 hour posted time for a full refund, sad.
Aww that’s too bad. It was also suggested I return the mount I was having issues with due to the required level making it unlearnable (level 63). I’m just glad it was a gift and I didn’t spend 200k on it in the auction house. Hopefully they can figure out what’s causing all these odd scaling issues. This is also affecting Shadowlands PVP vendors. It seems items tooltips scale with the character whether you can use the item or not.
Asked support to help, but they won’t do anything. Told me most mounts require level 60. 800 g down the drain.
Sorry to hear that I have noticed a lot of pets that say they require level 50 or 60 now which is odd. The mount levels seem all over the place, too, but many of them never used to require such a high level so it’s unfortunate that’s the response.
