Vender is American English. I am not British so it’s vender not ‘‘vendor’’ for me.
wut?
I remember paying gold at max level for an expansions level range for flight before all the big changes where they got rid of crap like cold flight or whateveer it was called in Northrend before.
eh…the article I have from the time said they werent adding flight to WoD…and that quickly reversed.

Flying will return to World of Warcraft’s new zones after all

wasnt ‘removed’ so much as telling players it wasnt gonna be put in and then very soon after they reversed the stupidity.
Try reading what I wrote as a response to only the bit that I quoted. Read it allll together and you’ll see that what I was saying is that there has never been a system in this game that nobody complained about. Reading is fundamental.
Vender flying huh? That’s a new one for me.
This was a planned thing. I forget the psychological name for it, but Mr I didn’t want flying. They say they have things planned 10 years out so they probably consulted the experts on this one. The only way to make flying harder and add to their metrics and not hit the players in the face with a whamo was slow implementation until we got used to one, then the next, and the next. I think basically because we players really didn’t give up on wanting to just be able to fly for fun they finally caved. (I shouldn’t say that, something will take it’s place instead)
Treasures and flying were the little kid gifts that made the rest of the work more enjoyable. But. But it seemed like if something was fun and easy it would be a great way to make extra money by taking it not taking it away, but make it a job.
“Vender is an incorrect spelling & should not be used in your writing. It is an outdated spelling that has not been used in published writing since the mid 1500s.”
Regular flying was always too slow. Good for AFKing or sky-swimming, but ultimately slow and boring.
Pathfinder has always been BS, but at least it’s super easy to get in DF.
We really do solve all the tough problems in general discussion.
Unfortunately, I learned that it appears as an alternate spelling in several dictionaries. While not being the prefered spelling, it is listed as an alternate spelling. I wish it were not so, too.
As for flying arguments, well, thank you and good morning.
To equate the success of earlier expansions with Blizzard’s prior flight achievements of cash payment at max level and the abandonment of WoD due to the addition of pathfinder is gas lighting at its finest.
They removed the ability to fly in new questing zones at the beginning of new expansions… this had a major impact on many.
I (more or less) left for 10 years due to it. My spouse left due to it and has never returned at all. Our extended group of real life friends (about 7 people) left within a couple of months of our leaving… most never returned but a couple pop in for a month or two every other expansion or so.
Correlation isn’t causation.
its not the 1500s anymore. this is a really strange hill to choose.
Dudes just old fashioned.
I feel like I’m missing something here…
I say this as an American.
I have never seen Vendor spelled “Vender”.
Am I crazy for never seeing this or does my state just teach British English for whatever reason?
Before you read this, please understand that I do not agree that flying should ever be restricted. But hear me out here.
Flying trivializes content. It does. There’s no way of getting around it. But the only REASON for this is simply the way the devs have designed nearly every expac since WoD (with the exception of this one). The regions in each continent/island are not that large so if we’re suddenly able to fly, the zones become “smaller” (to us). They also either couldn’t or wouldn’t (and I think it was definitely “wouldn’t”) develop content in three dimensions so they took the easy way out in WoD, Legion, BFA and just restricted us to the ground until it no longer mattered. That sucked and I agree with the OP that it should not have been a thing. It was punishing to people who came to expansions later and/or who joined later and found that they still had to grind pointless ancient content just so they could. I would argue it was also punishing to people who were playing every day from launch like they wanted. Pathfinder should still be an achievement but it should not OPEN up flying. Our characters already know how to fly, it literally makes no sense from an immersion perspective why we have to keep re-learning it every expac. Flying is here to stay, develop new xpacs with flying in mind from day 1 and let’s knock off the stupid Pathfinder crap.
Devs have to solve two issues with new regions in new expacs.
- the quests and the tasks that one must perform to level in a zone need to be engaging and at least somewhat difficult. This is made 10000x easier FOR THEM if we are restricted to just being on the ground
- they have to create enough content to keep people playing and not make questing and/or leveling through a zone so quick that you can get through it in less than 4-5 hours. Again, this is made 10000x easier FOR THEM if we are restricted to just being on the ground
That’s all there is to it.
Now, we as players have come to EXPECT that we can fly @ max level. I’d argue from here to hell and back that THIS is a reasonable expectation and that Blizzard needs to get off their butts and create content that still meets the expectations I know they have but with flying in mind–which again, I’d argue they did just fine with THIS expansion (first time for everything, right?) .
Develop in 3-D.
Block certain areas that you don’t want us in with artificial ceilings/walls or metric tons of flying elites that will blast you off your mount. (Prime example–Tomb of Sargeras was technically there from Day 1 but if we got too close to it, we were blown up–even when flying finally was availble in Legion but the raid still wasn’t open yet)
You are correct in that statement but you’re missing the fact of it being a FACTOR.
If you have something that is loved a lot of things go into that. These xpacks were some of the most popular xpacks ever and we saw the players drop in wod. No one likes struggling to get around the map and it just makes it feel like work instead of fun. I legit spend hours in this game flying around in new zones once I am able. We saw people begging for flying to come back in the forums, we all player count hit the lowest low. I’ve seen people not even buy a new xpack until the flying patch or stop playing all together from it.
I lost my guild to this flying BS
Flying has and always will be a huge reason for this. Do not act like flying didn’t do that when people can tell you it did for them.
These xpacks were some of the most popular xpacks ever and we saw the players drop in wod.
Thank you for agreeing that MoP is the best expansion ever.
One of the biggest issues I had with the flying thing in WoD and expansions after it, was how hard they made the zones to traverse. I don’t want/need a straight A---->B for questing, but neither do I want zones like Gorgrond where you have to traverse half the zone to make a right hand turn.
