This has been bugging me for a month now. Searches have all been dead ends.
In the “Visions of N’Zoth - Intro Cinematic” anduin decks our boy wrathion screaming “My father’s dead because of you!”
How do we go from varian making the choice to sacrifice himself to cover the allaince retreat to I’ll punch a dragon and blame him for it.
Is there a cut scene I missed? … Is it in a novel?

Wrathion helped freeing Garrosh which lead to WoD, which lead to the Legion invasion which lead to Varian’s dead

Wrathion is the reason Garrosh escaped to start WoD.
WoD is the reason Gul’Dan came back to Azeroth with the Legion in tow.

Without Wrathion WoD would have never happened which means alternate Guldan wouldn’t be a thing so he wouldn’t have invaded Azeroth and created the situation in which Varian died.

Ok… Where in the game does it tell me this??

Blizzard explains everything in novels between xpacs now.
It’s awful.

Honestly, it’s really silly to blame Wrathion for an entire chain of events that unfolded. Also, Anduin was under N’zoth’s influence when he punched Wrathion, so I don’t really think he actually blames him.

Wrathion’s involvement was in the War Crimes book where Garrosh escaped.
Gul’dan escaping to Azeroth was the end cinematic of Hellfire Citadel and also in a short story just before Legion. Then Varian’s death was the intro scenario for Legion.
So it’s about 2/3 in game. But Wrathion’s involvement in Varian’s demise was indirect and distant.

Wrathion knocked Anduin out then leads to Garrosh’s escape.
War crimes, a book I haven’t read. 35 must be old 'cause storytelling in video games used to be in the video game. smh
Thank all.

Except this is all in game, 100%. It’s like… the main story of the past several expansions.
Except it’s not.
Wrathion busting Garrosh out was in a novel.

It’s in the novel WarCrimes by Christie Golden.

Well, I never read the novel. And I learned from it in game. So. I guess. It is. It was explained either in the beginning of WoD or in the prepatch invasion stuff. I even remember a quest line where another dragon is talking about it too, and their reasoning for it. It was all made clear pretty early on.
edit, not having read the specific scenes out of a book doesn’t remove the knowledge from the game
Well they are setting up a “Emotional tear jerking reunion” of anduin and varian in shadowlands. They are trying to push anduin as a relatable human character instead of a mary sue now so no doubt we’ll get some dumb cinematic of varian giving the
“NAW SUN YOU REALLY IS A KLING EVEN DOUGH YTOU MADE MISTAKES DURRR!!1!!”
Anduin sucks and I wish they would just kill him off already.

You likely didn’t considering it’s never mentioned directly in-game. Between MoP and BFA he was mentioned like three times, none of which get into the specifics of his involvement with Garrosh.
There was a scenario during WoD that covered Garrosh getting brought to Draenor, but Wrathion isn’t mentioned. Only the bronze dragon that helped.

I feel like you’re giving the novels more credit than they deserve.

Not so sure since Wrathion owns up and says “I guess I deserved that.”
