It isn’t about a different point in time, it’s an entirely different Alliance.
The original Alliance was indeed about the human kingdoms, and eventually Terenas called in an old favour and forced Quel’thalas to join in. Later the elves and a few human nations jumped ship. The Alliance was basically just a fancy title.
The new Alliance was based from Stormwind and involved much more variety (still human centric though).
If anything Tirion rejected the 1st Alliance because of the bigotry it was known for. It’s why he was the best to lead the charge to Ice crown. He knew the bigger picture.
I mind less that Varian died than I do the after effects. In fact, I would even go so far to say that the post assault events “breaks” the canonical timeline in favor of pushing the Sylvanas plotline and eventual redemption point.
The simple fact is the “hate” the Alliance felt thinking the Horde abandoned them would have been soothed realizing the truth in how the Horde was overrun. The Alliance have the SI-7 as well as Jaina demonstrating she has magic that can pluck and display memories…plus the alliance have a damn airship that could/should have seen the Horde being overrun.
Thus the forced tension leading to Genn and company leading the Stormheim campaign would not have happened…or should not have happened. Sylvanas should have gotten away with her agreement with Helya and had her endless resurrections and whatever that would lead to. BfA shouldn’t have happened the way it did. Shadowlands wouldn’t have happened the way it did. Even things happened as it did doesn’t even make sense given what we know about the characters. This whole nonsense about Sylvanas and her “good soul” is made up trite to soften our hearts and play into her redemption arc. In reality, she should’ve died defending the Jailer and had her world ripped apart as she realized, with her dying breath, that she was a puppet and a pawn all along (plays in well with her “I’ll never serve” bit too).
I got a better one. Waaaaaay back in Vanilla WoW I was playing an alliance character, and I was questing in Dustwallow Marsh, at, like, level 35-40ish. The quest in particular was one where you had to investigate and deal with Theramore Deserters for Jaina. Now, the issue here is that the named NPC that leads the deserters that you’re supposed to confront and arrest is a friendly NPC, PvP flagged for Alliance. Confronting him turns him hostile, but does not remove the Alliance PvP flag from him, so attacking him, which you’re supposed to do, flags you for PvP too.
So, I beat this guy, no real problem, and Jaina herself teleports in to arrest the guy, and stands there for a bit to let you turn in the quest. So I run up to her and click on her, I’m reading the quest text as I did frequently back in those days, getting ready to turn the quest in.
Suddenly, out of the bushes charges in a level 60 Tauren Warrior. Naturally I stood no chance, and I died very quickly. At Jainas feet. And she did nothing. She just watched it happen.
THAT is the kind of person Jaina is. Those are her true colours.
I mean true, where was she at this time. Makes an ice bridge to fight the giant guy then to guldan. After that where was she in the cutscene. Like you had genn, high tinker, and varian.
Don’t worry, they can pull him (or any other lore character) they need out of alternate timelines now. So he’s not really dead. He’s just working as a bartender in a resort bar in the Bahamas.
Exactly. Her existence was conveniently forgotten to force a particular narrative forward.
Legion was all about trying to transform the player into the main character, the core representative of their entire class. And Metzen was retiring (the voice actor for both Thrall and Varian, also originally the lead WoW story developer) for stress and health reasons.
In the cinematic, they could have at least shown Jaina taking on the rest of the entire roster of powerful demons that Gul’dan had just finished summoning to showcase that she was literally too busy to save Varian herself.
It would also aid to validate her enormous frustration against the Horde. She was there when Varian decided to let the Horde live on. She was there when the Horde seemingly abandoned Varian to his fate despite everything she personally was doing to help both sides fight against the demonic onslaught.
Her anger would’ve been cinematically justified, and would’ve set up the tone for BFA much MUCH better.
While I don’t wish him dead. I swore if he ever became warchief I would transfer all my horde toons to alliance without a look back. I do not like him whatsoever.
Lol I remember that one. My first server was Dalvengyr a PvP server.
But my problem was I didn’t realize it was PvP. I’d been recruited by a friend because he wanted that zebra mount. So trusting dummy that I was, I signed up and went on my merry way. As a NE new player you’re safe to level with no worries except for the denizens of the forest and leveling zone.
Night Elves on Darkshore take the peaceful easy feelings to heart. They stand there and watch you die. If you click on them they stay in that hazy peace loving mood, even as they are dying. Jaina just kinda spaces out and looks like she’s thinking of what to cook Varian for dinner so she can have a bone to throw to Genn.
Baine is horrible though.
If you want a character that strives for peace, Lor’themar is the better character. He goes for peace, without laying down and showing belly to the Alliance.
