Think about the Battle of the Broken Shore and all the characters involved. Think about the cinematic where Varian Wrynn “heroically” dies.
Now think, “Where is Jaina?”
Now think about the effect Jaina had during the Battle for the Undercity.
At least when the writers of Avatar the Last Airbender wanted/needed Toph not to participate in a fight, they took care to explain why she wasn’t present. Because if Toph were present for every fight she wasn’t, the story would’ve turned out very differently.
Except in Jaina’s case, she was there… but she wasn’t?
Yes, let’s unkill the only alliance leader that ever died in WoW, but Cairne, Garrosh, Saurfang, Vol’jin, Sylvanas (basically dead, stuck in the maw for a long time), Gallywix (not dead but stopped being a leader), they can keep being dead/away.
Yeah. Blizz is always hesitant to let the factions actually use technology in their battles.
We have space ship with lazers, advanced mech suits, and airships…but in actual conflict these are very rarely used and the factions focus on low technology combat instead. It really doesn’t make a lot of sense
ima just add kael’thas since he was originally had good intentions for us belfs. not sure why alliance are crying bc we dont have anyone now lol. they lose 1 person and its over lol
Shock value… they just add as much sex, violence and tragedy as they can and think the more they squeeze in, the better the story it is.
I know we cannot and should not go back to the “I Love Lucy,” or “Leave it to Beaver,” eras of story telling, and that the industry has always been escalating and pushing limits… but I feel like there is a sweet spot, and we’ve long since shot way past it.
Alliance strategy at its finest. That entire scenario is what happens when you try to be nice and let the inferior army take lead. Shoulda just made Saurfang joint commander again and actually win.
Like seriously… why was the Horde up top and the Alliance sieging the front? The Horde has the best front line troops with their hulking Tauren and Orcs and their siege weapon of choice is the catapult, which is again great for a siege. Alliance have better archers and siege weapons that counter flyers… which was to be expected when fighting an army that has FLYING DEMONS. So why wasn’t the army that’s better suited to fighting flyers guard the high ground flank and protect the front siege from the flyers? Instead they decided to place spear chucking trolls and axe chucking orcs up top while stick elves and humans tried to knock down a door. Not even a single dwarf in sight which is the only race you got worth anything in a siege.
Jaina’s “effect” was showing up with a flying boat.
Varian already had a flying boat, it didn’t help him. Another one wouldn’t have helped either.
The fact of the matter is that no matter how they tried to sell it, Sylvanas was never going to be as big a threat as the Legion. I mean, she didn’t even have Jaraxxus.
Remember the cinematic? The battle started with the Legion bringing down a whole fleet of airships. They needed to push the demons back a little before and distract all the gargoyles, falling infernals, and everything else the Legion had, before it was safe to bring in air power. And even then, it wasn’t all that safe.
As I recall the scenario, it’s basically down to the direction they came into the final battle from. They split up in the middle part of the island and by the time they were approaching the Tomb of Sargeras, it was too late to call timeout and switch sides.
If only we’d had scouts figuring out the lay of the land, we might have avoided that, but Shaw was busy being replaced by a dreadlord, and the Horde spy agency was busy… not existing… so we got suckered by bad intel and bad luck.
It might’ve been different if we’d fought as an actual unified force, but we didn’t.
Not even a draenei! You’d think they’d be on the front since a) they’re built like fridges and b) they have kind of a grudge here.
It wasn’t all that safe when it flew in because they twiddled their thumbs until the Horde pulled back. If they had wanted to be both safe and effective, they would’ve come in to bombard the Legion while Sylvanas and company were keeping the skies relatively clear.
They basically waited until it was too late to be anything more than a glorified lifeboat.
Varian should have lead the Alliance to war based on his faulty view of the Horde abandoning them and causing the death of Genn… And nobody should have been able to convince him otherwise.
Tess Greymane should be on his side, mad with grief. Jains on his side just because she hates the Horde and wants to exterminate them anyway and just wants a new excuse.
Anduin should have played the Saurfang role as the voice of reason/leader of the rebels to stop his father from madness.
The Horde should have been fighting a war of Survival against a really angry Alliance who is bent on exterminating them.
Varian and Garrosh were two sides of a coin and they really should have explored that instead of Horde Bad Siege of Orgrimmar 2 Electric Boogaloo
Jaina was once again written to be a seething hateful spiteful… “lady” again despite having just been served humble pie for like the third time since Theramore, and refuses to have anything to do with the Horde, hence she didn’t participate in the combined attack on the Legion.
Because the book writers and game writers never seem to be able to agree what kind of person Jaina is. Book writers want to see her grow as a character and move on. Game writers want her to be all “NO AM ANGY HORDE BAD” and, beyond all logic and reason, refuses to have anything to do with the Horde even in the face of the biggest Legion invasion in 10,000 years. Hence why she left Dalaran when Khadgar let the Horde back in.
