Vanilla was bad. Face it. Blizzard missed a huge opportunity to release better legacy servers during wrath

It’s always confused me that you could kill x amount of creatures and only loot 1. I mean, doesn’t every creature have a heart or some kind of pelt that needs to be collected for a quest?

Good games sell. Regardless of age.

When Clasic hits, I hope your rosy-glasses are extra-illuminating, chief. :sunglasses:

It’s clear you won’t be there, so at least I will have that.

Oh I’ll drop in and dabble a bit, probably with a rogue, never fear. No harm in checking out a side-piece during the main game’s off-days.

Barrens zebra hooves anyone? Oh wait it still bad lol. Orcs corrupt everything. Only in Kalimdor 1 out of 10 zebras have a hoof lol. Or only one ostrich out of 10 has a beak. How in the heck do they eat without beaks? Real immersive it is hahaha.

I mean if the game keeps going in the direction it’s going we may see an OSRS situation happen.

Mine too, but that doesn’t mean OP is wrong. I thought Vanilla was great at the time, but only because I didn’t know any better. Compared to modern WoW Vanilla is absolute garbage.

Lol. You say it was absolute garbage compared to the dumpster fire we had with WoD and BFA? Ok, to each their own, but I think you are not only incorrect, but the OP obviously had some social issues during vanilla. I played and loved it. I found that it was about both the journey and those you took it with. Current WoW is basicly filled with player controlled npcs who you never see again and end game content that you can do at lfr difficulty to see the story. I know, I know, if you dont clear end game at Mythic while running M+87billion, you are garbage and should shut up and all that, but maybe, just maybe some people actually prefer to play a glitchy game that required more skill as well as teamwork as opposed to seeing randos on your screen in every zone.

Your post is spot on. For some reason it seems like every tool in the shed has to come out swinging at Classic with the same worn, strawman arguments and act like they are saying it so it must be true.
If someone doesnt like it, dont play it. Its not hard, but that concept is just too difficult in todays world where everyone feels as though their grievance MUST be held by everyone else as well.

Simple math problem: it’s hard to make money on something you give away for free (unless micro-transactions!). Last I read, Blizzard isn’t charging money to play classic. The only way they make money on classic is if new people sub for retail which will allow them to play classic.

So you’re saying that Blizzard is expecting WoW subscriber numbers to increase when classic is released? I know some classic supporters are saying “millions” of players will return for classic. Heck, if that many new players subscribe, the revenue increase will be extremely noticeable in Blizzard’s quarterly earnings report. Better start pumping up ATVI stock price! /s

Vanilla wow was rewarding and an amazing journey. I worked at a net cafe during vanilla and the whole place would go crazy as people hit 60. Vanilla was a masterpiece.

It’s the exact opposite.

You’re really making me want to experience Vanilla. I’m a Wrath baby so I missed out on Vanilla and BC.

This ^ is what I first thought of raiding when I first started playing this game.

I started playing the game during Wrath; read about Zul’Aman and other raids. When I got to level 60, I was looking for a group for those raids and I couldn’t find anyone who wanted to raid with me. Just thought it would be awesome if they made servers for every expansion so that I could play the game with like-minded people.

I just don’t think it’s going to be anywhere close to as popular as some extremely vocal minority advocates think it’s going to be.

We shall see. O Wise One, bless us with thee wisdom more, shall you?

Wait a minute now, don’t go putting words in my mouth. When I say modern I’m specifically talking about the current expansion, imho the only expansion worse than Vanilla is WoD.

My main frustrations during vanilla were:

  1. looking like a clown while leveling because quest rewards never matched and armor customization didn’t exist

  2. class design was good in some areas, but absolutely horrid in others. For example, Ret Paladins had a “rotation” that consisted mostly of auto attacking

  3. leveling was excruciatingly slow

As for “player controlled NPCs”, that’s basically what I thought of people during vanilla as well. Outside of my guild mates, two in particular whom I knew previously from my time in Star Wars Galaxies, I didn’t bother getting to know people because I had no interest in doing so. I’d group up with PUGs for a dungeon or group quest, and when it was done I would forget those players even existed. I didn’t pay attention to server communities or anything like that because I didn’t care about it. All I cared about was questing, enjoying the story, and leveling up, all while chatting with my SWG friends.

Off topic, but as far as I know I’m the only one of the three that plays currently, the other two quit during WotLK when it came out that one had been catfishing the other since before we switched to WoW and was not a woman like he had said he was. I’m not talking about a trans person here, he was only pretending to be female when talking to us, his voicemail, which was how we caught him, had a male voice and gave a male name, and he also turned out to have a girlfriend IRL as well.

don’t stress about hitting end game and just enjoy the journey and you will love it
