Here’s a video from Blizzcon 2005:
Watch that and you’ll get an idea of just how many people raided back in Vanilla. The game was never difficult, don’t be surprised when BWL is cleared on week one by nearly every single guild that’s cleared MC.
Raiding was never as exclusive or as difficult in Vanilla as people make it seem.

I agree. The trash pulls are a little harder, and knowing the path in sup room but none of the bosses are hard.
So he’s saying on any given night back then 35,000 people would be raiding, while he argues the 1% claim is wrong without giving an actual percentage that he has the data to answer. Well, if there were 3.5 million people playing back then that would be 1% raiding during primetime on any given night, and there were over 5 million subscribers in 2005. Less than 1% were raiding on any given night, so even if you say every night of the week showed similar numbers in raids and bump that 35k up to 50k a day for 7 days you hit ~7%. A vast majority of people paying a sub were not raiding.
So far as difficulty, I was in a guild in Vanilla that cleared everything up to and including AQ40, and we were not at all good at it. BWL was a big step up in difficulty for us, but we still never got stuck on a boss for more than 2 or 3 weeks. I agree with you that many, many guilds will down BWL fast, but fail to see the correlation between difficulty and number of people doing it.

The hardest part of bwl imo is the trashpacks with the techs and spellbinders
Please watch the video again and listen to his exact words. That number was at prime time (2 hour, specific window) in the U.S. alone.
And how did you avoid the 10 character minimum with your 4 character response?
I did listen, and even said primetime another time in my post.
Most people raid during primetime, which is why he used that as an example, and there are days in which raiding is more common than others. I still buffed his number from 35k to 50k and pretended it would be that many all 7 days of the week, and came up with 7% of people actually raiding. You can multiple his 35k number by 5, and be super generous, and you still only get to maybe 1 in 5 people raiding in 2005.

You’re ignoring everywhere else in the world.
You’re ignore the fact a guy who could have disputed the 1% claim with an actual number instead threw out only US Primetime numbers that in no way suggest a substantial amount of those paying subs at the time were raiding.

A lot of people raided but it took awhile to clear things. I remember my guild wiped on chromaggus for 2 weeks before we finally got him and we were one of the top guilds on the server
If you know this forum’s code, you can put in a special code block to get around the 10 char minimum.
use “<” and “>” to hide text with out quotes and spaces put a word between the brakets
I’ve joined the cool kids club. It’s good to be cool.
