Vanilla Plus

Just nerf Naxx gear and release new 40man raids with new endgame gear and lv 60 questing zones.

Then repeat. Nerf endgame gear. New raid with new endgame gear. Repeat.

No need for expansions or new levels.

Maybe even lv 20+ alternative leveling zones.

one step at a time :expressionless:
if they were to ever do classic+, which is doubtful, they should just start by finishing every azeroth zone. i want to quest in mount hyjal.
once they do that, then they can work on opening up new raid instances

Why nerf gear? Horizontal progression is a welcomed thing. It’s sorely lacking in nearly all MMOs.

Why even make “better” gear in the first place… The point of raiding for better gear just feels dumb now that I have done it so many times that I cant remember it all anymore.

Why not just make different gear with different stat allocations for different builds with different set bonuses…

As for nerfing the gear… IMO the peak item level should be level Level 65 with MAYBE some level 70 weapons or trinkets.

Outside of that, the game really falls apart when you pass level 65 item level. It breaks both PVE and PVP, and the best way to fix the game play overall is to nerf gear.

As for stats… Cut the following stats down also… (talking Vanilla+ here)

  1. Reduce the power of the Attack Power stat by 50%
  2. Reduce the power of Spell damage items 50% (remove the healing component of the stat) Stats should require a player to make choices, not have it all in a single stat.
  3. Reduce the power of Spell Healing by 75%
  4. even consider nerfing STR to only provide 1AP per point.
  5. Even consider making AGI crit scaling universal for all classes melee crit. Range crit AGI scale also needs to be universal between classes (it can be different from melee) Agi per Dodge also needs to be exactly the same.
  6. Re-check all stat scaling to make certain its a universal concept per the stat.
  7. Also an aura that clears all buffs on zoning into a raid would be a solid positive move, the chrono boon is just a band aid bad design.
  8. I would even go so far as to say use MoP era racials to promote more / Better alliance PVP.

People have said “horizontal progression” a few times in this forum without trying to really describe what that means.

The next poster said: “Why not just make different gear with different stat allocations for different builds with different set bonuses…”

which would be interesting (and AQ40 did that to some extent by having set bonuses geared towards “secondary specs” like shadow priest), but… if there’s not also an increase in raid power over the previous gear, how does the “progression” part happen?
If the raid is just as easy to defeat with the gear you had before as the gear you gain during the raid…

I’m sure there are ways to design raid mechanics that favor different stat allocations, like Hodir and Vezax in Ulduar, and your gear from that raid could favor that. But the problem is that it becomes the same stat priority for the entire raid. It’s not so different from gaining shadow resist gear from BT for Mother Shahraz, or Nature Resist. gear for AQ bosses. It’s “horizontal gear progression” to some extent, but you’re gearing for one stat across all your raid and it feels a bit gimmicky.

Not saying it can’t be done but people are throwing this term around without really thinking the implications through.

Wouldn’t Kharazan (spelling) be a logical edition?

I am skeptical about this though. Let’s just say I don’t think they can justify it and what do they put in that makes sense

I like this idea. You could do it with some sort of resistance gear requirements, or similar.

Classic plus is a fool dream, current blizzard could never make additions to the game that actually improve upon its design. If changes had to be made just fill in gaps in content, Naxx should always be the final tier. Even in phase 6 there’s space for a 20 man raid alongside Naxx.

On my old main you could probably find posts of mine dating back to TBC asking why they didn’t just progress the game in a manner similar to these Vanilla+ threads.

I may be the oddball but if Classic had jumped straight to the story in WotLK that would have made sense to me. You defeat Kel’Thuzad then go after the Lich King. Karazhan and Mt Hyjal arguably make sense in an extended vanilla game as well.

To be blunt the people behind Classic had internally moved by retail WotLK and it shows in the game. I’m not super confident they could pull it off and capture what you want

Bwl, AQ, and pvp gear, before naxx is such a sweet spot imo. Lots of cool set bonuses to play with.

Also

T2 for resistance
T2.5 for spell pen
Pvp gear for stam

It’s very awesome that you can build your preference, before naxx comes out and out performs them all with raw dps.

For example, I’m trying to get t2 on my warlock which would be bis for my play style because it grants over 100 spell resist to my pet. I’ll take the spell resist and pass on the extra damage.

I always laughed when the raid lead told us to go farm resistance gear for some fights and then realized how important the res was than the damage. x.x; Brutal damage.
