Vanilla is mostly rose-tinted

As someone who actually played it was slower, much more of a grind, fewer rewards. It looked worse, it played worse, it was unstable.

The only reason why people liked it back then was because it was vastly easier and better looking than EQ was. The only good thing about vanilla was the community aspect, but discord servers are better for communication and communities anyways.

We want it slower, we want fewer reward, we want it to look dated, we want the random grinds for random stuff.

Insulting.. tbh.

We don't like how retail WoW plays. They are two seperate games.

Nothing to do with nostalgia.
It has everything to do with preference on gameplay and design/philosophy

But there is no challenge outside time investment in vanilla, I don't understand people that complain about BFA reward system, current retail is 100% more rewarding than normal raids ever were in Vanilla due to mythic raids and mythic +/also high end rated pvp. Vanilla PvP and PvE was dreadfully slow, unbalanced and easy.

That is your subjective opinion. You're allowed to feel that way. Of course, with that opinion, it sort of makes one wonder why you're here instead of off in a discord enjoying a community.

I never played EQ. I actually played games like Half Life 2 and Guild Wars before I started playing WOW, so I was coming to a game that looked visually worse.

WOW was unstable as all getout. I remember one of my first two realms got the nickname Crashridge because it went down so often. Yet, with all these other game options available at the time ... I flipped to another server or waited and refreshed the page to get back in.

Why?

Because the game was immersive and fun. Every time I got logged in, I had all sorts of places to go, things to see, quests to do, materials to collect, and it was all at my own pace.

I'm old enough and have gone back and played enough games that I am well aware of what part is rose-tinted glasses, and what part is actually there in the game. (Have you seen how bad PS1 graphics are compared to modern-day stuff? Yet, I goof around with Tomb Raider 1 and 2 - so blocky, so horrible on a modern resolution wide-screen monitor, but still an amazingly fun game for exploring a world.)

If you love mario brothers, but they recalled the game and turned it into a first person shooter.. you would want the old game back.

Not because of nostalgia, but because you don't like first person shooters.

WoW used to be an RPG, now it is a lobby/moba game.

Listen buddy, I could spend half a day discussing this stuff with you and show you how PAINFULLY ignorant you are, but I have had this discussion way too many times to go through it again. If you are going to come in here and bash something you literally have no idea about you are going to be in for a rough time. Learn how the game is actually played and not just off some crap memory you had 12 years ago when you were 12 years dumber than you are right now.

I am severely disappointed in you Pelican. Be it a troll post or serious it does not matter.

Also you are incorrect about multiple things. In fact those in-corrections have me believing that you may never have played vanilla.

P.S. Raiding in BfA is freaking easy. Actually raiding has always been easy. Yes... I went there.

I'm not so much dissing classic, I'm going to enjoy playing it. I'm more or less confused how the people that complain about current retail don't even attempt to challenge themselves by competing in end game content.

I completely get enjoying vanilla more if you are a casual, the reward system just for grinding and putting in time was there. It gave a sense of accomplishment for no skill, whereas now in retail you actually have to play your class well to accomplish end game goals.

Hope that makes sense, I mean to defend retail more than to attack classic.

as for the current game, legion was fine, bfa is awful
