Vanilla First Ragnaros Kill vs. Classic FIrst Ragnaros Kill

Vanilla Ragnaros was killed 5 months and 3 days after launch, during Patch 1.4.
-No one had ever played WoW before.
-Computers and internet were nothing like they are today.
-Leveling for first-time WoW players took months.

Classic Ragnaros was killed during Patch 1.13 (based on Patch 1.12).
-WoW has been played for 15 years.
-Versions of Vanilla WoW have been played on private servers for 15 years.
-Computers and internet are far better than they were in 2004.
-Layering has allowed players to speed level far more quickly than normal.
-There’s a 24-Patch gap between the two (i.e. the Classic Ragnaros kill had a 24-Patch advantage, gameplay-wise).

When you take into consideration all of these differences, it’s not that surprising that Classic Ragnaros was killed within a week.

Non private server, non elite are now clearing MC. The point is 1.12 is designed for Naxx and not for MC without appropriate tuning. If classic is for Naxx then they should just release that now not this 1 year gap.

People are actually surprised it was killed this quick?

This topic has been discussed to death…

It was expected for Rag to go down within the first week… it was expected.

Now, 99.99999% of you… aren’t even close to doing that…

And half of you are going to wipe in MC repeatedly.

I did mention that there’s a 24 patch gap between the two.

Vanilla Ragnaros
-People actually had to figure out his mechanics (no dungeon journal, and I don’t think people raided him in the beta, though that I could be wrong about) and then figure out a strategy to counter them.
-They had to figure this out in one hour a week worth of attempts, since Rags would despawn after that and couldn’t be resummoned. Not sure if it was generally possible to res right in his room at launch (and even if it was, no mass res). If not, then running back (through BRD for some of that time LMAO… attunement didn’t exist at launch), rebuffing etc, would leave you… 4? attempts at best? A WEEK. Later this was “nerfed” to two whole hours a week. These days people do what, 100 hours worth of attempts to knock down a mythic boss? And of course you get to do those attempts one after the other and build muscle memory, not wait a week after every few attempts.

-(Most) people had to put guilds together (the world first guild MAY have already been together in another game)
-Nobody, even top guilds, went to the extent of no-lifing right at launch because they were hardcore but not in that kind of a race, plus it wouldn’t have done much good due to the above.
-Several bosses, including Rags himself, were badly bugged for long periods of time.
-Lava Eruption was un-nerfed (though I understand it was possible to bug it out so that it didn’t happen at all on the second or later attempts).
-1.3 talents and abilities

Classic Ragnaros
-People merely had to mechanically execute a strategy that had already been mapped out to the last millimeter over 15 years and they themselves had probably practiced as recently as a week before.
-Competitive guilds pre-existed from either retail or private servers
-People were trying to set a speed record and hence no-lifed right at launch
-No bugs
-Lava Eruption was nerfed
-1.12 talents and abilities
