I just finished Stockades on my new KT human, and at the end the reward quest turn in, Hogger’s Shiny, upgraded to epic (purple). I have never before seen this in a vanilla dungeon. Someone in my party said that the chance to upgrade came about 4 expansions ago (Mop?) but I have run dungeons to level all toons since then and never seen it. Is this a new thing or a bug?
Upgrading is a bit old but it popping up in old content is new. It also happens for quest rewards from what I have been told. Kinda neat, if you ask me.

All Quest rewards from Classic through the Warlords of Draenor expansion now have a chance to upgrade up to Epic quality.
- Item-levels of Rare and Epic quest rewards in Classic through Warlords of Draenor have been increased slightly in some cases.
- Unique items that drop from rare enemies in Classic through Mists of Pandaria content now also have a chance to upgrade in quality.

On a level 19 druid doing a quest in Wailing Caverns I was supposed to get ilvl 24 gloves. They upgraded to ilvl 30 epic. They were of course replaced after a few hours of play.

Every single piece of gear outside AZ stuff has a chance to upgrade and it can be done for either:
- Extra iLVL and therefore stats
- An additional stat like Speed or Leech
- A gem slot
In current content, not sure of old, a +5/10 is a Warforged item and a +15 o higher is a Titanforged item.
In some cases you can get a WF and an additional stat or gem slot, in rare cases you can WF, get an additional stat and gem slot and in the most extreme cases you can TF all the way to iLVL cap, get an additional stat and get a gem slot.
